📱 Mobile Internet is expanding, but billions are still offline. How Connected Is the World to Mobile Internet? ➡️ 57% of the world's population (4.6 billion people) now uses Mobile Internet. But, the growth rate in Mobile Internet adoption stayed flat in 2023, according to GSMA's "The State of Mobile Internet Connectivity Report 2024". 📵 96% of the world is covered by mobile broadband. Yet, 39% of the global population (3.1 billion people) aren't using it. ➡️ Who's Left Behind? Nearly 90% of those without Mobile Internet live in covered areas. This gap is mainly due to a lack of mobile devices. 🚫 What's holding people back from using Mobile Internet? The top barriers are handset costs and limited digital skills and literacy. 🛜 At the Internet Society Foundation, we support initiatives to increase digital access, affordability, and digital skills worldwide. Today, they use it to help the indigenous Wayúu community gain better access to information, education, and opportunities. The Internet Society Foundation supports Fundación SOLE Colombia’s groundbreaking SOLE Lab. This community-owned space empowers people to learn together using the Internet! 🇨🇴In Boca de Camarones, Colombia, the Wayuú community uses the SOLE Lab to explore everything from programming to environmental education.
