About us

InterPride is the international organization that advances the Pride movement by coordinating with global partners that share our values. We are uniquely suited to carry out our work because InterPride: - Works with and supports the visibility and development of Pride networks around the world, thereby contributing to the presence and influence of Pride efforts at regional and local levels. - Gathers regional Pride platforms dedicated to producing Pride events for diverse global SOGIESC (Sexual Orientations, Gender Identities and Expressions, and Sex Characteristics) communities to learn and grow with each other. - Manages, supports, and awards WorldPride™, global grant programs, and related initiatives. In 1982, the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Pride Coordinators was formed in Boston, USA, with an initial membership of six USA Pride organizers. Over time membership has grown to include Pride organizers around the world, becoming InterPride in 1999. In 2021, membership totaled over 300 organizations from more than 60 countries. This growth has been matched by increasing diversity of membership. Since 2015, non-North American members have grown from 21% to 49%. This trend primarily reflects increased participation from Oceania and Global South (Africa, Asia, and South America). The Pride movement continues to evolve. Pride has gained a presence in locations where it was previously absent or under-developed. There has also been significant growth in structures that gather Pride organizers together at a national or international level (known as Pride Platforms). This trend has created opportunities for InterPride to identify ways to better leverage regional knowledge to advance the rights of SOGIESC communities.

OFFICIAL #WORLDPRIDE NYC DOCUMENTARY TRAILER LAUNCHES FOR FEATURE FILM “HUMANS OF PRIDE" The documentary captures the once in a generation moment in NYC when WorldPride came to the United States for the first time to commemorate 50 years since the Stonewall Riots. Rare footage from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and 2019 will help to answer questions like, “Who in our community ultimately got left behind? Why did this happen? What are the lasting effects, and how do we resolve them?” The Humans of Pride documentary takes us inside both official Pride events and street protests that occurred that year, meeting an array of activists and community leaders along the way, some who have since passed on. It further explores the origin stories and untold histories of such events via rare archival footage, in hopes of inspiring the next generation to also act up and get involved. InterPride Statement of Solidarity with the Global Trans & Gender Diverse Community InterPride stands in unwavering solidarity and support with the trans and gender diverse community in condemning the misrepresentation of Algerian boxer, Imane Khelif as a transgender woman. This caused a media backlash against our trans and gender diverse siblings before a clarification was issued by the International Olympic Committee. As pioneering trans activist Marsha P. Johnson is reported to have said, "No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us." This incident shed light on the injustices and misunderstandings that trans and gender diverse people face daily including prejudice, systemic discrimination and erasure. We acknowledge the impact of violence, harassment and marginalization on our trans and gender diverse communities, particularly trans women of color. Despite this backlash, our organization remains steadfast in supporting the rights and dignity of all individuals through using our global Pride platforms to support the changing of the policies and laws to safeguard trans people from discrimination. And we amplify their voices and narratives to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions. InterPride encourages everyone to raise awareness in their communities on transgender issues through committed and respectful discourses not just within LGBTQI+ communities but in partnership with our committed allies. esumen en ES: InterPride se solidariza con la comunidad trans y de género diverso y condena la falsa representación de la boxeadora argelina Imane Khelif como mujer transgénero en los Juegos Olímpicos de 2024 en París. We’re excited to announce the current composition of the Board of InterPride, which now includes representatives from 10 countries and 14 member organizations, making it the most geographically diverse Board to date. The Board members have voted to appoint Christopher Joell-Deshields (he/him) of Pride in London (United Kingdom) Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I). Co-Presidents Hadi Damien and Rahul Upadhyay said: “Chris brings a wide range of talent, as well as understanding and willingness to productively engage on matters related to diversity and inclusion. He has demonstrated a strong commitment to his co-chair role of the committee that organizes the General Meeting & World Conference, and his presence on the Board will strengthen both his committee work and the D&l work that he is stepping into.” Accepting this appointment, Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion Christopher Joell-Deshields commented: “I look forward to working with the Board and the Human Rights Committee. Statement - #officialannouncement The Board of Directors of #InterPride has accepted with regret the resignation of Co-President Natalie Thompson. As Natalie’s organisation - Capital Pride Alliance, in Washington DC, USA - prepares to host #WorldPride in 2025, her focus is needed to support the team there. She has committed to continuing on several InterPride committees to bring her expertise and knowledge to our ongoing efforts to tackle discrimination across our movement. Co-Presidents Hadi Damien and Rahul Upadhyay commented: “We want to thank Natalie for her contributions to the @interpride Board in almost two years as Co-President, and during her earlier time as Vice President of Global Outreach. She is a passionate advocate for our community and we know that she will bring these skills to support Capital Pride Alliance in delivering WorldPride in Washington, DC next June.” The Board has also accepted the resignation of Richard Brethour-Bell, seven days after a meeting of the Board voted that it no longer had confidence in him to perform the duties of Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion. Recruitment of suitable eligible candidates is underway and updates will be shared in the next few days.
