There are two sides to every story. When workers go on strike to protect their jobs from being taken over by technology, production can suffer. When technology plays a big part in increasing production, workers can suffer. In order for the US to be competitive at the ports an influx of technology may be necessary.

Which industries have the most stressed out managers? Nearly half of U.S. middle managers are burning out on the job, according to LinkedIn’s Workforce Confidence survey, and the latest findings show this runs the risk of impacting their direct reports, too. About 30% of employees report having bosses who are often too stressed to support them at work. The problem appears to be even greater in certain industries: 38% of employees (excluding C-suite employees, partners and owners) in the oil, gas and mining industry say their boss is too stressed to support them, followed by retail workers (36%), construction workers (35%) and those working in manufacturing or transportation, logistics, supply chain and storage (33%). Middle managers face pressures from above and below them in the org chart, and are more likely to be dealing with burnout than their more senior or more junior colleagues, according to earlier LinkedIn research. But many professionals are counting on their bosses to push through burnout — just over two-thirds of employees say they would leave their job if they had a bad manager. That sentiment is most pronounced in the consumer services industry, where three-quarters of workers agree, followed by education (where 73% agree). This morning AXIS and Brigade announced their merger. These two charts show (left) the combined product line sales of the new company and (right) the contribution to revenues of each company. I was involved with the creation of Brigade and sat on the founding board of directors for several years - I remain a shareholder. As US laterals get longer and longer, completion of these laterals will fall more and more into the domain of the well servicing rig and the snubbing unit. This is why I have deployed my family's capital into this sector - the workover rig is core to sustaining the globe's oil and gas production. And I'm a huge fan of Justin Bliffen, founder of Brigade.

How big is the global oilfield and its service companies? My friends and colleagues, David Otte and Missy Parker, just put the newest Oilfield Market Report to bed and it will be delivered to clients at the end of the month. 700+ OFS companies being tracked and segmented into 32 market buckets. These two charts show the largest 20 or so OFS companies and the largest 10 OFS market segments. Here's some clues: Companies serving offshore/subsea are doing great and the future looks bright. Same with Middle East everything. US Land is coasting for now and down a bit.
