The League’s annual Nuisance Abatement Conference will be held Thursday, May 23 at the Kent Campus Center at Simpson College in Indianola (701 North C Street, Indianola, IA 50125). The day-long conference held in the spring features a variety of sessions aimed to provide assistance on nuisance property issues and ways cities can improve neighborhoods. The conference will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and lunch is included. On May 4 IMA is hosting the 2024 Emergency Management Seminar in West Des Moines. The one-day seminar will help mayors, city council members, emergency responders, and other staff be prepared for anything that may happen from natural disasters to active threat events. This training will provide checklists, manuals, and guidance from experts on how you, as the face of the city, can respond to the unexpected. The keynote speaker is Cathleen Atchison, one of the lead reviewers for the Cedar Rapids derecho response.
