Created on July 26, 2011 by Executive Order 74, the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council is a partnership of business, policy and education leaders from across the state of Iowa convening to bolster STEM education and innovation and to better position Iowa’s young people and the state’s economy for the future. The STEM Council is co-chaired by Governor Kim Reynolds and Accumold President and CEO, Roger Hargens. The executive director of the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council is Dr. Jeff Weld. He has developed and designed more than 10 innovative courses at the middle school including coding, robotics and the STEM BEST Curious Minds program. Spooner strives to make STEM education engaging, inclusive and relevant by tailoring lessons to students’ interests so they see STEM as a natural extension of their passions. This includes a multi-year video game design program that evolves through students' middle school years, using industry-standard tools to develop skills in 3D sketching, dimensioning and game development.
