On #september11 we remember those who were killed, also those who protected & nurtured. #NYC is stronger than its parts when glued by community, leaders, & family - especially those who help children thrive.

Learning Center for children and adults with over 35 years of experience, run by Dr. Rebecca Mannis, PhD.
About us
The Ivy Prep Learning Center offers individualized instruction and enrichment to children and adults with learning difficulties. We analyze, assess and identify individual needs, help develop a cohesive Education Action Plan, and then put that plan into action. Ivy Prep differs from other learning centers – We treat the total individual and collaborate with others to attain each student’s goals. Students of all ages can develop strategies to address school and workplace challenges. Our methodology consists of educating students according to their nature, whether they are intellectually gifted or specifically challenged with a learning issue. Ivy Prep students learn how to internalize the strategies that suit them best so that they can advance at home and at school with independence. Our students achieve their learning goals with one-on-one remediation and individualized instruction using course materials, traditional print media, and advanced and customized educational technology. Our instructors individualize methods and materials to fit each student’s learning style and the curriculum of each student’s school.

Schools have finally caught up with parents and are providing guidelines that frame tech use in the building and beyond. While #edtech and #UDL can be game changers for people with #dysgraphia, kids need clear frameworks for tech use. Check out our tips and contact us for guidance about incorporating tech for your specific child’s needs. Visited Harriet in the very ‘hood she lived at my fave bookstore, where hundreds of my students sign account cards in the drawers behind this classic register. Harriet is the most curious and charismatic #CarnegieHill character. Here’s to the schools, families and kids who bring their own Harriet vibe to 10128 - equal parts class and badass #WorldLiteracyDay THE CORNER BOOKSTORE #literacy #reading #books #dyslexia #themagicyears #parenting

Return to campus is far from ordinary this semester, amid shifting campus policies and, at times, campus Antisemitism. Our students deserve to learn and thrive in and out of the classroom, but that is fraught for many students, their parents by extension. Dr. Mannis’ Jmore article offers practical tools to manage the stress of coursework and these additional challenges. They may need to revamp #executivefunction strategies to deal with tough courses and campus conflict. As parents, sometimes we need to be proactive in helping and other times need to step back to follow their lead. What is NVLD? As a learning specialist, I often encounter students with Nonverbal Learning Disabilities (NVLD), a lesser-known but impactful condition that primarily affects spatial and motor skills, meaning individuals may struggle with visual-spatial tasks and coordination. This can impact everyday activities, especially reading, math, and foreign language academic performance, and social interactions. 📚 Key characteristics of NVLD include: 1. Difficulty understanding nonverbal cues and body language 2. Struggles with tasks that require spatial reasoning, like math problems or navigating new environments 3. Slower processing speed, working memory difficulties, and dysgraphia 4. Strong verbal skills, but challenges with organization and planning 🌟 Early diagnosis and tailored strategies can make a significant difference. If you suspect someone might have NVLD, seeking help from a specialist can provide valuable insights and support. As always, our model bridges neurospsychology and a deep understanding of how to resolve and advocate for learning disabilities. Some kids are born more mathematically inclined, but there are always methods to unlock logical math intelligence. That’s the ability to solve problems and patterns using logic, calculate math problems, and draw connections about data. To improve logical-mathematical skills: 1. Create and solve puzzles and patterns. 2. Talk about how you think when solving problems. 3. Balance learning math with real-world problem-solving. Excited to share our own Rebecca Mannis, Ph.D.'s segment on KOMO TV where she discussed how various math skills are deeply intertwined with specific brain functions, shedding light on the cognitive processes involved in tackling these challenges. It’s important to recognize that these skills not only enhance academic performance but also stimulate critical thinking and decision-making capabilities in everyday life. Whether you're a student, parent, or educator, these insights foster a deeper understanding of mathematics and nurturing cognitive development.
