Our Accident Reconstruction team was retained to investigate and reconstruct a collision involving two racing vehicles, traveling over twice the speed limit, that struck another vehicle turning at an intersection before causing damage to other vehicles and structures nearby. Our team was asked to determine: • The impact speeds of the racing vehicles. • The potential for a typical driver, in the respective positions of the drivers racing, to avoid the incident collision with the turning vehicle. • The left turning driver’s visibility of the two racing vehicles, at the time when the leftward turn was initiated. • The likelihood that a typical driver, in the position of the driver of the turning vehicle, would have initiated the left turn. Our Accident Reconstruction team was retained to investigate and reconstruct a collision involving a 2016 International heavy truck and a group of pedestrians walking on State Road 60 in Florida. The engagement included rapid response to the accident scene to document and collect evidence, capturing a 3D digital scan of the site, and downloading/preserving EDR data from the International heavy truck. Based on our site inspection, the 3D digital scan, photogrammetric analysis of photos and video still frames from the day of the accident, photo and video evidence, human factors analysis, and the EDR data, we were able to confirm the truck’s point of rest and the pedestrians’ locations/movements and determine vehicle speeds, positions, braking, and steering with minimal uncertainty. We produced visual aids of the crash sequence from multiple perspectives and developed a 3D computer model that can be viewed with a virtual reality headset, allowing viewers to see the crash happen in real time, understand the events that took place, and make informed decisions about the case.
