We started as a small family owned road construction company in 1945, and have grown to over 500 full time employees, but still remain family owned, and employee focused. Originally founded by Jacob Eckman, later passed on to Jim Eckman, and now the 3rd generation; Mark, Michael and Virginia Eckman are continuing the JD Eckman legacy today. JD Eckman is a full service construction company, with our own in-house engineering staff of over 8 full-time registered professional engineers licensed in several states and over a dozen project managers/engineers we have the expertise to handle the most complex projects. Our expertise in emergency bridge repair has created excellent working relationships with the state DOT's we work with. Safety is always top priority at JD Eckman. We employ a full-time safety staff, who ensure the safety of our workers and the jobsite, and maintain OSHA compliance.

Nothing makes us happier at J.D. Eckman than seeing mentors supporting the next generation. Riding shotgun is Larry Sweigert who dedicated 26 years as a superintendent before retiring in 2018. McKenna Reichard (right), a superintendent on our SR 61 job in Frackville, has been with the company for 18 years. He started as an operator and rose to superintendent and he says it was mostly because of what Larry taught him as a mentor and a friend. Larry likes to come back and check up on McKenna. On June 27, we held a luncheon to celebrate the retirement of a veteran member of the J.D. Eckman family. Our CFO Dennis Brubaker was hired by Jim Eckman 34 years ago and has played an instrumental role in the growth of the company. We welcomed Dennis' family to the celebrate with us as well. His grandkids presented him with a card that read, “now you can swim with us more.” Although he will be greatly missed at J.D. Eckman, it brings us happiness knowing that the second leg of his journey will be spent enjoying more time with his family. #JDEckmanFamily

It was a pleasure hosting ASCE and the local engineering community. Efforts like this go a long way in improving Pennsylvania's infrastructure. #Infrastructure
June brought us an in-person construction site tour of the I-80 Exit 308 interchange realignment in Stroudsburg, which is a near $100 million construction project reconstructing the interchange with two bridge replacements, two new roundabouts, new ramps and road reconstruction, and plenty of retaining walls, new signs, curbs/sidewalk, and drainage/utility work. A great turnout of ASCE Lehigh Valley Members made the trip to brave the 90+ degree weather for a project tour, and then afterwards, head to Stroudsmoor Country Inn to enjoy dinner and a presentation on the project by lead designer Tyler Kerstetter, PE of CDM Smith. Special thanks to Tyler for participating and presenting, as well as Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and J.D. Eckman, Inc. for allowing the tour to take place, and Nicholas Giglio, PE of Urban Engineers for organizing the event! Joseph McFadden and Ian Carson, EIT of Michael Baker International were also of great assistance for planning and participating in the event!
Commitment to safety starts from the first day you get hired at J.D. Eckman. New employees return to our Atglen headquarters for 90-Day Training where they learn additional safety procedures after time spent in the field, and also enjoy a catered lunch. On June 21, we held the third training of the year, with five more scheduled through September 2024. At the end of the day, some employees like Thomas Seth (pictured) will make the switch from red to yellow hard hat to show that they've transitioned from new hire to established employee. #JDEckmanSafety
NEW PROJECT! J.D. Eckman crews will begin work on an emergency repair to the Route 6 Bridge in Bradford County after the 4th of July. During a visit to the site, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Mike Carroll expressed his confidence in our ability to get the job done based on our track record with similar projects.
