Our Mission is to be a child’s voice in court. We recruit, train and support lay volunteers who act as advocates on behalf of the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Our Vision is to ensure that every child involved with the Jackson County Family Court due to abuse or neglect will grow up in a safe and permanent home.

Due to an internal promotion, Jackson County CASA is seeking a new Program Support Specialist. The Program Support Specialist will provide administrative support to the organization’s Legal Services and Volunteer Services departments. The Program Support Specialist will be responsible for the maintenance of legal documents, files, and will manage multiple calendars with excellent attention to detail in an environment that is fast-paced and handles highly confidential material. Sommari Muwwakkil is the most recent addition to the CASA legal services team. Sommari is a Kansas City native and a former employment law attorney who practiced in the Kansas City area. A proud UMKC School of Law graduate, Sommari became passionate about serving others through the law. Before becoming an attorney, Sommari excelled as a deputy juvenile officer here in Jackson County and served in other roles, such as staff sergeant in the US Army (amongst other occupations). He loves exploring new hiking trails and socializing with colleagues, is a Chiefs fan, and enjoys spending his free time with his Son Zion. We are glad to have you on the team at CASA Sommari!

We welcomed Louise as a CASA Case Engagement Specialist on August 8th. Louise was born and raised around the Buffalo National River in Arkansas. She attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she graduated with degrees in Social Work and Political Science. She has worked in guest services at the Scott Family Amazeum, an interactive children’s museum, and helped launch their DEAI work. She was a research and evaluation assistant in veteran’s treatment courts in Arkansas and Phoenix, AZ for the University of Arkansas School of Social Work. Louise enjoys watching documentaries, spending time with her niece, and eating and making good food.

Sarah Hollenbeck joined the CASA team on August 1st. Sarah began her career in the medical field before transitioning full-time to social services in 2023, when she became a foster care case manager. Previously, she volunteered with a foster care camp in Nebraska for four years and worked at a local organization with at-risk individuals navigating developmental/behavioral challenges. We are happy to have Sarah on the CASA team!

Our CASA House Committee of Older Youth has teamed up with Youth 4444 Change to host a fun and informative event at Synergy Services on October 30th. They are passionate about preventing overdose deaths in our community. Please share with any Older Youth who may be interested in attending.

Jackie Jarvis joined the CASA team as an Advocate Supervisor on July 24th. Jackie has dedicated her career to supporting and empowering families so they can grow together in safe, loving and healthy relationships. She has a particular passion for children and families affected by trauma, mental health concerns and developmental disabilities. She enjoys volunteering in children's ministry and animal rescue, as well as spending time with her family, especially her niece and nephews. She also loves cooking and baking, gardening, Middle Eastern dance, crochet, and any craft she can get her hands on. We are glad to have you at CASA, Jackie!
