We announce the passing of JALBCA Support Group member It is with great sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of the JALBCA’s Support Group member, the Honorable Lisa Margaret Smith. Our deepest and heartfelt condolences go out to Judge Smith's family. Judge Smith had a long and extraordinary legal career cemented in public service. She was appointed as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of New York in 1995, a position she held for twenty-five years through her retirement in 2020. She was the SDNY’s Chief Magistrate Judge from 2006-2008. Her reputation “on the bench” was one of professionalism, preparedness and fairness. Judge Smith was a loving and devoted wife to her husband Bill and to her two children JT and Kinsey.
