At the 2024 Associated General Contractors of Connecticut Industry Recognition Dinner, JCJ’s Principal and Chief Architectural Officer, James LaPosta Jr, was named Designer of the Year! In the role of CAO, Jim has oversight of all aspects of design quality, delivery of technical services and professional licensure. As a key member of JCJ’s executive leadership team, Jim has specific responsibility to promote a culture of design, to cultivate business opportunities that are consistent with JCJ’s core values, to maintain delivery of exceptional client service and to ensure the firm is practicing within the highest ethical and performance standards. His long tenure in this role has been a key component in the firm maintaining a strong footing through times of significant change and emerging as the oldest continuously operating firm in Connecticut. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Jim serves as Principal-in-Charge and Design Principal on many public and community-based projects, including facilities for higher education, K-12 education, arts and culture, nonprofit organizations, and Tribal Nations. His facilitation and consensus-building skills have been honed through decades of collaboration with owners, stakeholders, committees, commissions, and industry partners to advance projects from planning through design and into the field. A dedicated member of the design community, Jim has worked with various client and professional organizations at local, regional, and national levels, including serving as Past Chair of the American Institute of Architects Committee on Architecture for Education and the American Architectural Foundation’s Design for Learning Initiative. In 2013, Jim was conferred the title of Fellow of the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) for his work elevating the practice of architecture, in particular design for education. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is a registered architect in 32 states and the US Virgin Islands. Congratulations to Jim and this year's nominees!

Design that Builds Community
About us
Since 1936, JCJ Architecture has built a practice on the union of business and art; an integration that combines our rigorous methods of management, the high standards of design and execution our projects achieve, and the kind of service our clients require and deserve. To be of service and value to our clients, we have developed a keen understanding of their respective businesses, of the challenges they face, and of their aspirations. We approach each project with extensive knowledge of its context and purpose, and with open and inquiring minds. Our experience does not give us predetermined answers—it enables us to ask the right questions. JCJ Architecture's teams of specialists focus on certain project types and execute them exceptionally well. Each of our core markets – education, hospitality, mixed-use, public safety, corporate, performing arts, -- is led by a nationally-renowned director supported by a depth of knowledge within our studios that allows us to provide focused expertise across the country. JCJ has launched a WELL-Environment Strategies Team, which will focus on implementing the WELL Building Standard®, the first protocol of its kind to focus on the health and wellness of occupants within the built environment. This standard identifies specific design strategies, performance targets, and operational policies that can enhance health and well-being when holistically integrated into building architecture and design. This team is led by three of the world's first Provisional WELL APs, professionally trained at the Cleveland Clinic. With offices in Hartford, New York, Boston, Phoenix, San Diego, Tulsa and Las Vegas, JCJ’s talented designers are supported by a business framework that gives structured freedom to their creativity and focus to their purpose: exceeding the objectives of our clients.

“We’re incredibly proud to officially introduce Caesars to New Orleans. From local favorite Emeril Lagasse to our long-time partner, Chef Nobu, to the beautiful state-of-the-art Caesars Sportsbook, all-new rooms and gaming floor, and of course, our gorgeous new center bar, Octavia, Caesars New Orleans offers something for everyone. It’s a world-class resort in the heart of the Big Easy and we can’t wait for our guests to experience it.” - Anthony Carano, President & COO of Caesars Entertainment. Last night, we celebrated the completion of the $435 million transformation of Harrah’s to Caesars New Orleans. The raucous event began outside of the casino on Canal St. with a ceremony led by our CEO Tom Reeg, President & COO Anthony Carano and Caesars New Orleans General Manager, Samir Mowad, where they, alongside Caesar, joined an iconic New Orleans second-line band in a procession into the casino. Caesars New Orleans Team Members and Mayor Latoya Cantrell joined the celebration to commemorate the historic occasion. All the celebratory details: https://bit.ly/48jeH94

Educational architectural design plays a vital role in enhancing our sense of well-being, pride, engagement, and understanding. Key qualities such as daylighting, biophilic connectivity, community and cultural identity, adaptability and flexibility, scale and order, as well as individual and collaborative functionality significantly enrich the learning experience. With over 35 years of experience in exploring innovative solutions for educational environments, JCJ's David Brewer, AIA identifies five key characteristics that contribute to designing a great school.

A huge thank you to our great reviewers Dustin Lombardi and Nicholas McGee from JCJ ARCHITECTURE and Mary Lynn Radych and Ariela Yaqi Zhang from TSKP STUDIO for joining us at the University of Hartford last week for our mid-review! Your valuable insights and feedback have been instrumental in guiding our students as they prepare for the AIA COTE® Top Ten for Students Competition. Our students have been using Autodesk Forma to analyze the site during their design process, and it’s exciting to see their growth in integrating technology and sustainability into their projects. Looking forward to seeing how the designs evolve for the final review! #autodeskForma #COTECompetition #UniversityofHartford #ArchitectureEducation

Featured in Boston Common's November issue, the JCJ-designed Pennyweight Hotel Boston Downtown, Curio Collection by Hilton showcases Boston's blend of rich history and contemporary, artistic spirit. “The brand vision was born of the mix of heritage and modern invention that makes the city unique, and so our design needed a timeless character and quietly provocative personality,” says JCJ's Carrie Nielsen. We think you'll find it 'soul-stirringly good!' Congrats to the JCJ team and our partners at Boylston Properties, Curio Collection by Hilton, Hilton on this remarkable gem!
