We're reminded that architecture is a collaborative art. The Whittingham Discovery Center's LEED Platinum designation is case in point. This achievement was made possible through the dedication of our client, the Mill River Park Collaborative, and the expertise of the team of designers who conceived its systems, structure, site, and lighting. And to meet LEED's special requirements, it also relied on Sheri (Cheryl) Dieso, AIA, LEED AP BD C, CPHC of Bryant Dieso to coordinate and execute the certification process. Kudos to Sheri, our friend and former Centerbrookian, for her tireless work. https://lnkd.in/gnY5GM6q

Park Synagogue, Pepper Pike, Ohio. Our design enlarged the existing sanctuary by removing a wall between it and an old social hall. Its bimah and ark were reoriented to face the center of newly expanded seating, and lower, arcing ceilings with similar arrays of “dropping” lights step down to keep the whole as intimate as it is grand. https://lnkd.in/eHs6EiYZ

Later this month, Pomfret School will host the iconic Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company as part of its Schwartz Visiting Fellow Program. Led by the acclaimed dancer and choreographer Bill T. Jones, the company will perform for the public in Hard Auditorium on Sunday, January 26th at 7:00pm. The metal panels at the Whittingham Discovery Center feature a biophilic pattern that evolved to be a central design element. They cast dramatic shadows inside and relate to the park with a color reminiscent of tree trunks. https://lnkd.in/ehubNJxC

Robyn may be singular in the field of finance. She knows the first nine digits of Pi and threw a 1-kilogram discus more than 140 feet. Welcome to Centerbrook, Robyn Krafft! https://lnkd.in/gPuzB8hd

What a great week at Greenbuild International Conference & Expo reconnecting with so many fellow green building nerds. Enjoyed this opportunity to host an interactive session with the wonderful Laura Cole and Erin Miller Hamilton, Ph.D. on green building signage and share some of our work on green building education at Centerbrook Architects and Planners.

Congratulations to Lesley University on the ribbon cutting for Reed and Burnham Halls! We are proud to contribute, with our many partners, to their renaissance.
Over Alumnae/i, Family & Friends Weekend, we celebrated the ribbon cutting for Reed and Burnham Halls, two historic South Campus landmarks. Built in the 1870s, these halls have served generations of students and are now beautifully restored to become vibrant spaces for community connection and student support. This remarkable restoration wouldn’t have been possible without our talented partners, whose expertise has brought these buildings back to life: Shawmut Design and Construction for project management Centerbrook Architects and Planners for visionary architectural design Girard & Co. Engineers, LLC for structural engineering STIMSON for landscape architecture Nitsch Engineering for civil engineering Arup Boston for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, technology, and energy modeling Leavitt Associates for building envelope restoration Cavanaugh Tocci Associates, Inc for audio-visual and acoustic design Lam Partners for interior lighting design Thank you to everyone involved in preserving history while shaping a dynamic future for Lesley. We can’t wait for these spaces to become a hub of campus life for years to come!
