    Can we get real about GAMIFICATION I'm on my way back home from another conference where the term "gamification" was being thrown around like candy. Gamification for gamification sake gets you nothing......actually it might be worse than nothing. Here's why. Let's say you decide to run a spin the wheel sweepstakes with a decent prize and submissions are through the roof. Great, right? Well, if you're a brand like the NFL and want to attract virtually everyone, then that might be a solid strategy. However, if your target audience is a bit more nuanced then you might just be adding a bunch of junk to your database and then wondering why open rates, audience segments, retargeting, etc aren't performing as well. Bad data in is bad data out. Tips to avoid this: 1. If you are going to do a sweeps, ensure the prize is aligned to your brand so that the people you attract are more qualified based on their genuine interest of the prize. 2. Don't just capture the lead. if you earn engagement, think about the 2-3 questions that would help you better segment and personalize their experience (ex. for NFL it might be favorite team for an ingredient brand it might be cooking skill level) 3. Focus on the business outcome. If it's sales, then I promise you there are better alternatives to sweeps (unless of course purchase is required :-) ). This is where "genuine value" kicks in. Give them a recommendation through a product match quiz, save them time with an interactive catalog or gift guide, educate them with trivia. I promise you will drive better business outcomes with these form of gamification instead. Ok, this probably should of been a blog vs. a post but oh well, I'm in too deep to turn back now. 🤷♀️ Think "strategic gamification" vs. cheap tricks Think "genuine value" Think data points that are "actionable" As a wise client once said (literally in my post yesterday) "Jebbit goosed my CVR onsite by over 40% with an afternoon worth of labor".
