JMG partners with public education and private businesses to offer results-driven solutions to support Maine students.
About us
JMG partners with public education and private businesses to offer results-driven solutions to ensure all Maine students graduate, attain post-secondary credentials and pursue meaningful careers. JMG is the only nonprofit in Maine offering a continuum of support to help students transition from middle school through high school graduation, onto post-secondary education through degree attainment and connections to successful career pathways. JMG increases high school graduation rates, college retention, and degree attainment and prepares students for successful careers after graduation by helping them overcome academic, financial, and social barriers. It empowers Maine students and models Maine’s next generation of young leaders, providing them with a toolbox of skills, knowledge and best practices they can use throughout their lives to achieve self-sufficiency, pursue their aspirations and attain success. Each JMG student leaves the classroom with pride, direction, and a clearer sense of what they want out of life and how they are going to achieve it.

At the Aurora Institute Symposium, we're honored to witness the powerful voices of students like Sofia Ervin-Agudelo, Kam Lui-Carter, and Jalynn Santiago as they share their lived experiences with learner-centered education. Their insights are a compelling reminder of the impact we create when students have a voice in their own learning journeys. Being here fuels our commitment at JMG to put students at the heart of education, ensuring their voices guide every step. Together, we're building a future where every student’s perspective is valued, and their learning truly reflects who they are. #StudentCentered
Carlos Moreno (Big Picture Learning) moderated an inspiring student panel at the Aurora Institute Symposium, featuring Sofia Ervin-Agudelo (Santa Clara University), Kam Lui-Carter (@Santa Monica Alternative Schoolhouse (SMASH)), and Jalynn Santiago (Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School). These students shared powerful insights on learner-centered education—emphasizing agency, self-discovery, and the importance of choice in their educational journeys. Their stories remind us that education thrives when students are active partners, empowered to shape their learning experiences. Let’s continue building a system where every student’s voice and vision is central. The keynote was captured by the exceptional Taslim van Hattum, a New Orleans artist whose ability to translate complex narratives into visual form enriched the symposium's dialogue on learner-centered education. #StudentCentered #Aurora24 #LearnerCenteredEducation #AuroraInstitute
