Join us in welcoming our new Chief Operating Officer, Jason Barell, to the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital family! Fondly known as “Uncle J” to his friends' children, Jason brings a wealth of experience and a passion for pediatric care. A nature enthusiast, avid skier, biker, and hiker, Jason's adventurous spirit and dedication to patient care make him an invaluable asset to our team. Originally New York, and raised on Long Island, Jason values close family ties, regularly visiting his younger brother in Chicago. Before making his way down South, Jason lived in Colorado for 12 years where he enjoyed taking advantage of the nature and outdoor lifestyle. "I'm still so new here but coming from Colorado, it's really exciting to have access to the beautiful beaches," says Jason. 
 His commitment to patient care and extensive experience at Children's Hospital Colorado make him a valuable addition to our hospital's operations. Jason's enthusiasm for serving the community is mirrored by the passionate team at Memorial Healthcare System and Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. "The people here are so passionate about the care we deliver and serving the community," says Jason. "It's also very clear that our caregivers feel well supported and that they are part of something bigger -- a family of people all trying to achieve the same goals." It was an extra special day for our superstar patient, Emma! After forming a special bond with Ariann from Ariann's All Stars during a pre-season game in August, Ariann and her friends over at Ed Morse Automotive Group collaborated together to surprise Emma with not just one but TWO custom-made wheelchairs in her favorite color! 💜✨ From a locker room tour to meeting the former Miami Dolphins Cheerleader, and now this incredible gift, Emma's journey with the Dolphins family has been full of joy, love, and unforgettable moments. Every day, our pediatric oncology patients at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital show us the definition of bravery. From simply being diagnosed to undergoing intensive chemotherapy treatment and more, these incredible warriors fight every day with their heart and soul to beat this relentless disease. At just 12-years-old, Aniyah showed immense strength as she battled heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. She spent over three months in the hospital and had an LVAD placed so she could go home while awaiting a heart transplant. Her resilience and courage touched the hearts of our staff and even the Florida Panthers during the Stanley Cup Finals, where her uplifting songs of encouragement went viral! We now celebrate after Aniyah received her long-awaited heart and is finally going home! Let Aniyah's story and message of hope and determination be a light for all cardiac patients. Today we celebrated the 2nd Annual Gold Ribbon Parade, an event full of excitement and love for our pediatric oncology patients. Led by the legendary Batman himself, the vibrant car parade made its way around the grounds of Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, spreading awareness and joy to our courageous warriors. For our oncology patients, this day was a chance to bask in the festivities they often miss out on, surrounded by their loved ones. From face painting to meeting some of their favorite characters like Paw Patrol and other superheroes along the way, every moment was filled with laughter, hope and the magic of childhood love. A heartfelt thank you to all who contributed to making this day extraordinary for our patients, showing them that they are not just fighters but superheroes with hearts of gold. Your support and enthusiasm have created beautiful memories and inspired countless smiles, reminding us of the strength and resilience that shines within each of our brave warriors. Today, we recognize these providers who are certified and licensed to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage illnesses, prescribe medications, perform clinical procedures, and conduct clinical research in management of the whole individual.
