The fall events season is officially in full swing at Uncharted, and we're thrilled with this week's events - starting with our Uncharted x Whistler Partners Cocktail Mixer this past Tuesday. Whistler Partners has been an incredible partner to Uncharted and our community, and we worked together to curate an evening where 25 of our members could meet 25 of their contacts in a casual but productive setting. With Whistler Cocktails flowing (who remembers these from the Uncharted Summit?), our two teams were able to help form new relationships and connections both within our existing community and the wider group in attendance. We loved working with the team at Whistler and cannot recommend them enough to anyone looking for legal counsel to bring onto your teams. Like they say, they're not headhunters, they're matchmakers, and they place the best and brightest attorneys in tech and venture capital. Thank you to everyone who joined us. We're looking forward to more mixer opportunities for members looking to both form new relationships and strengthen existing ones! (And we can't forget to shoutout HappyBoards, the charcuterie on demand brand that Uncharted member Ankit Agarwal founded. This year, Uncharted had the privilege of joining forces with the prolific media outlet CNBC. This live broadcast was a first for us! World renowned anchors Tyler Mathisen, and Kelly Evans via satellite, interviewed several Uncharted attendees for both The Exchange and Power Lunch segments. This broadcast was an amazing opportunity to showcase the thought leadership of some of our brilliant members, including Bill Harris (FinTech), X. Eyeé (AI), Alan Patricof (VC), Katie Couric (media), and more. We love watching the Uncharted Summit continue to develop and evolve in new ways. How many entrepreneurs are focused not only on profit, but truly on a deeper purpose and impact? For broadcast legend Katie Couric, this deeper purpose was a driving force in the decision to dive headfirst into a male-dominated industry and withstand endless roadblocks, hurdles, and "no's". Not only did Katie persevere, she used the challenges as fuel to maintain motivation and chart new territory. After a decades-long career as an iconic host and anchor, Katie has launched her own media company to continue to blaze a trail that others can follow. Katie embodies the spirit and essence of the #Uncharted Community and entrepreneurship in general. We've worked incredibly hard to build the most intimate and impactful dinners in the business, and we're excited to roll out a packed calendar with our flagship dinners, new cocktail mixers, and breakfast clubs through the end of the year. Like we said at the Summit, the amount of people who approach us in the weeks after our events to tell us they met someone who changed their business approach is uncanny...but it's also intentional and the reason we continue to build Uncharted. We curate each event to best serve the community, and we're proud of Uncharted's role in facilitating new partnerships and friendships. "The greatest trade of all time." It sounds like folklore. But for the Uncharted 2024 closing speaker John Paulson, it was reality. We were thrilled to have John joined on stage by CNBC's Tyler Mathisen for an eye-opening discussion on how John was able to identify opportunities in the market that no one else was seeing...opportunities that produced billions in transactions. But, as we know, there's no such thing as an overnight success. John admitted that he sent out 500 initial announcements of his company to attract clients, and didn't receive a single phone call. When he was finally able to start bringing in customers, he wasn't taking a salary and his "office" was a desk at a local print firm. How many of us can relate to being scrappy like that in the early days of building a business? John's biggest advice for making it past the initial stages of entrepreneurship? Become the leading expert in the area you're interested in. Like he says, "if you're an expert and you know as much or more about that area than the people you're competing against, then you have an opportunity to outperform." The founders in the Uncharted community are deeply familiar with the Big Three C’s. Rest in peace to Susan Wojcicki, a pioneer in the tech industry who demonstrated how to be an entrepreneur with grace, poise, and unwavering passion. It's impossible to put into words the depth of Susan's impact on those working to create the next great idea. Susan will be dearly missed and her legacy will live on as entrepreneurs take her words to heart and continue to try to make the world better.

What does chess have to do with entrepreneurship? Way more than you think. In his most recent book, Move by Move, Grandmaster Maurice Ashley describes his journey to becoming the first Black Grand Chess Master. It was riddled with moments of joy and wonder, painful defeat and frustration, sacrifice, risk, and true contentment. Entrepreneurs, does any of this sound familiar? Maurice is the first to admit that he didn’t know much about entrepreneurship… but his deeply personal keynote presentation showed our Summit attendees that the laws of the game are applicable to foundership. It’s a metaphor for learning, leadership, and life. “You’ve got to continue to believe in the strategy that you’re pursuing no matter what results you get, because you’ve got to lose in order to win.” Truer words have never been spoken.
