  • IJGlobal has recognized a Firm-led transaction as the North American Public Private Partnership (PPP) Deal of the Year. Jones Day represented Henry Ford Health System on its ground-breaking Central Energy Hub Project, the first-of-its-kind Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintain (DBFOM) for a health system project in North America. The Central Energy Hub will heat and cool the new facilities through a hot and chilled water pump system, which will eliminate the need for natural gas and contribute to the facility, becoming one of the largest fully electric-capable hospitals in the country. The Project includes sustainability and energy efficiency opportunities (including the possibility of taking advantage of new technology advances), minimizing emissions and meeting sustainability-related requirements as mandated by applicable governmental authorities. The transaction team was led by Brian Sedlak and Gerald Griffith.

Getting a judgment or award does not automatically mean getting paid. Particularly where judgment or award debtors are in less familiar jurisdictions, there can be a strong incentive to delay or avoid payment. It is critical, therefore, for claimants and their legal representatives to consider recognition and enforcement at the outset of proceedings to ensure that the judgment can be monetized effectively. Click below to download our first White Paper in a series on Global Enforcement and Asset Recovery. This paper aims to simplify the issue of recognition and enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards. It also summarizes some of the key enforcement considerations and procedures in several major jurisdictions. #arbitration #litigation #assetrecovery

  • The UK's Court of Appeal has issued an important decision on the principles governing the grant of interim licenses in standard essential patent (SEP) disputes. The decision demonstrates that the UK remains an attractive jurisdiction for patent litigation, particularly in the context of SEP disputes. However, an appeal of this decision, thought by some to be overreaching, may be forthcoming. To learn more about the implications of this decision, click below to download our Commentary.
