There’s no better way to welcome Fall than picking pumpkins! Pre-K and Kindergarten students at Gretna No. 2 Academy had an amazing time at the pumpkin patch last week! #TeachingTuesday with Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies Haynes’ Principles of Engineering students (10-12) began their Reverse Engineering lesson by disassembling some donated broken items. The students studied items ranging from Keurigs and printers to scanners and VCRs. In reverse engineering, items are disassembled for study, improvement, repair, or replacement. Learning reverse engineering helps students develop problem-solving skills, understand how systems and products work, and foster creativity by figuring out how to improve or repurpose existing designs. It also encourages critical thinking and innovation, useful in fields like engineering, technology, and software development. Haley Burd, a senior at East Jefferson High School, embodies what it means to be a dedicated student and community leader. As a cheerleader, National Honor Society member, and morning announcer, she balances academics with school involvement. Haley’s love for English, especially poetry, reflects her passion for words. She’s also enrolled in the Pre-Nursing apprenticeship offered at her school and volunteers at Grace at the Greenlight community kitchen. Describing herself as a “doer,” Haley is driven to pursue a career in pediatrics after earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing. “I know the teachers here are dedicated to their jobs. #JPSchools is holding a Holiday Greeting Card Student Art Contest. All student art will be judged based on the theme of the contest, ‘Jefferson Parish: 200 Years of Holiday Traditions.’ The deadline to enter is November 12, 2024. There are three grade level categories: K-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, and 9th-12th grade. One winner will be chosen from each category, and will receive an invitation to the January School Board Meeting. One Grand Prize Winner will have their artwork featured on the district’s holiday card.
