Doing some dynamic water testing yesterday for Hartz Mountain Industries and K L Masters Construction Company In Weehawken. Two great customers working hard to build great buildings. Have you ever tested or even thought about testing your through-wall packages terminal units? A static chamber test doesn’t really work, air leakage is so high you would need 6 blowers, but dynamic testing is a great way to make sure they are storm resistant. AMCA has a lab test for this but honestly it’s just another labeling program that doesn’t ensure they will work in the field. This can be done pretty reasonable on-site (in this case in the garage) or in our lab. When we do it in the lab we ask that the supply/install team are in attendance so they can make changes if there are problems and we can re-test to make sure the remediation works. We’ve done standalone units like this and units installed in window and curtainwall systems. I can honestly say once we work out the details not one job has experienced the leaks we see all too often that originate from the PTAC. www.bet-na.net
