For the last three years, Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. and Lincoln Literacy have collaborated to offer two levels of English classes for employees. We have a Foundations (Level 1) class for beginners and a Level 2 class that is more focused on: - technical vocabulary such as "torque," "weld," "sand" - safe lifting techniques, chemical signs, and more - how to grow within the company On April 6, our 13th group of Kawasaki employees completed our 12-week class. Special thanks to Hamza Rfissa, a Ph.D. student in Education from University of Nebraska-Lincoln who contracts with Lincoln Literacy, Erica Birky Rios, our very own Workplace English Instructional Coordinator, and Kevin Mattran, Training Administrator at Kawasaki. Students report increased understanding of their job, confidence in speaking with co-workers and team leaders, and understanding of career pathways. In fact, of the 150 total employees that have completed our program, more than 20 have been promoted from Production Team Member to Assistant or Team Leader, Quality Control, and one person is soon to be promoted to an Engineer! Pictured: Students, Erica, Hamza, and Kevin, who was also honored as the Champion of Literacy for 2023 at our annual awards banquet. This past year Kawasaki sponsored a Senior Design project for the UNL College of Engineering Capstone Program. I had the priveledge to work with 5 UNL Mechanical Engineering students on their project to improve a welding process in our Lincoln factory. The team came up with two elegant design proposals to counteract welding distortion in a structural weldment. Congratulations to Nazariy, Casey, Ty, Peyton, and Garen on a successful project. I was very impressed with the team's work ethic througout the school year. The results of your investigation are promising and I hope to implement your ideas in future projects at Kawasaki. Also, your team did a fantastic job presenting your project to UNL faculty members! Well done!

Our #free workplace #classes for #immigrants and #refugees offer workers many benefits, including being safer and more comfortable in their roles. The classes also offer a clear path to move up within an organization, giving them a more financially stable life while contributing to increased stability and retention for their employer. Huge thanks to Charles Haacker for the photos taken at Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., U.S.A.

Nebraska Basketball star and hometown hero Josiah Allick had a blast touring our Lincoln, NE facility to learn about our “Kawasaki Lifestyle”. It was a pleasant surprise for a lot of our employees who got the opportunity to meet and take photos with him! | #TeamKawasaki #GoBigRed

Robotics in Nebraska! 🤖 FIRST LEGO League 🧱🎛️ hosted their competition in partnership with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at the Cook Pavilion this weekend. This was simply awesome. Students and STEM, Robots, LEGOs, and well-rounded development. These students don’t simply assemble a robot using directions. They must design a robot that can achieve various missions, build the robot, program it, test it, fix it, and try it again. These students demonstrate their ability to innovate, fundraise, problem-solve, and develop resilience in the face of failure. After all, sometimes Lego robots fail or need a little innovation and reprogramming to accomplish what these kids want the robots to do. The NE Manufacturing Alliance and the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry proudly connected manufacturers for a Career Exploration to enlighten these young Nebraskans how their interest in robotics can be put to use in amazing careers - right here in Nebraska 🎈and around the world 🌎! Nucor Corporation had the students melt steel!🔋🧯⚡️ Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., U.S.A. showed them how to program a robot.🤖 🏍️ Rensenhouse Industrial Solutions had them working with a co-bot to grab blocks.🦾🧱 Huffman Engineering,Inc. had them working with a PLC. 🎛️ LI-COR Biotechnology and LI-COR Environmental had the students check out high tech atmospheric metering and plant analysis. 🌱🔬 Nebraska Department of Education SkillsUSA Nebraska Brandy Schulze Keith Mandachit, P.E.
