I wouldn't have dreamed about it at the time, but taking a GRE for grad school (psychology) turned out to be a career-defining moment. Learning HOW to take the test was like a game to me. And later, I figured it would be a waste not to do something about the 1,040 vocabulary words I had learned for the exam, so I started working with one of the major test prep companies, The Princeton Review, while I was still in college. It didn't take me long after graduating to realize that's what I REALLY enjoy doing. And I still do, 24 years later. And how about your kids? At the very least, take a practice test. I usually have my students do this. They take both SAT and ACT to see which test might be better to prepare for and for me to get an idea of where they're currently at.
