We had the honor of welcoming Germain Gilson, Assistant Superintendent of the Office of School Choice at the Louisiana Department of Education, and her colleague, Megan Thompson, Deputy Education Advisor, to our school. Their visit was inspiring and insightful, as Mrs. Gilson shared valuable perspectives on education and emphasized the importance of collaboration, innovation, and fostering a positive learning environment for all students. We're grateful for their time and for reminding us of the incredible impact we have as educators, fueling our passion as we start the new school year.

Last Friday, our Kenilworth students visited the Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) at Louisiana State University! Under the guidance of Dr. Orhan Kizilkaya, our students had the incredible opportunity to delve into hands-on experiments, exploring the cutting-edge technologies shaping our future. From nanotechnology to materials science, every moment was filled with wonder and discovery. A huge thank you to Dr. Kizilkaya @CAMD team for his warm welcome and for igniting the curiosity and passion for science in our students. CAMD is the synchrotron facility in the southern United States. The students learned how synchrotron light is generated and utilized at various experimental stations for ongoing research projects. They were exposed to advanced technology up close and involved in hands-on demonstrations, including optics, electroplating, and experiments showcasing changes in states of matter using liquid nitrogen and magic mud (also known as Oobleck). The tour concluded with a sweet treat-orange ice cream made with liquid nitrogen and orange crush.
