It’s happening! State Banking Associations from all over the country are gathered here at the Galt House in downtown Louisville for the 2024 SBA For-Profit Forum! We’re so excited to have everyone together for this event, and well, we couldn't resist getting a big group shot of the gang. Thank you to everyone who made this possible, with special recognition to our Illinois Bankers Association and Indiana Bankers Association for all your collaboration!

In the weeks following the September FOMC Meeting, I have explained my decision to dissent from the majority decision to reduce the federal funds rate by 50 basis points at several events across the country and with groups of bankers and business leaders. These interactions have been overwhelmingly positive, and I greatly appreciate the opportunity to engage with those who are closest to the economic and business conditions across the United States. Engagement with leaders across industries and the banking sector help to inform my understanding and analysis of the data we review and rely upon. Thank you for the opportunity to share my views and to meaningfully engage with the many event participants over the past two weeks. What an incredible experience at this week’s 2-day Succession Academy Masterclass, hosted by the Kentucky Bankers Association (KBA) and expertly led by Phillip and Alyson Van Hooser Originally designed as a four-part series, Phillip and Alyson condensed this comprehensive program into an intensive two-day small-group workshop. The personalized approach they brought to the table was invaluable, as each institution had the opportunity to address specific challenges in their succession planning journey. Each financial institution—like every business and organization—faces hurdles when it comes to succession planning. It’s critical to ensure that your succession strategy is aligned with your overall strategic plan. Are you confident the plan tucked away in a drawer is still viable, and are you truly committed to it? If not, it’s likely time to gather the team for a meeting of the minds and build a plan you’re ready to invest in. A huge thank you to the KBA and the Van Hooser team for making this a truly impactful experience! Looking forward to applying what we’ve learned as we keep moving forward on this road to success. *image, Cycling the Legacy Trail @ Kentucky Horse Park

At our 133rd KBA Annual Convention, April Perry, CEO of Kentucky Farmers Bank, was presented the Chairman's Gavel and Pin by current KBA Chairman, Mark Strother. We celebrate Mark's outstanding leadership and thank him for the immense impact he's made here with all of us. April will take over as Chairman at the conclusion of our KBA Annual Convention. As April steps into her new role as Chairman, we look forward to an inspiring future under her guidance. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her team and the leadership at Kentucky Farmers Bank, praising their decision to be active with the KBA—a choice that has positively impacted everyone at KFB. This is a very special moment for all of us at the KBA. Please join us in welcoming and congratulating April Perry as our new KBA Chairman of the Board. #KBAAnnualConvention #MovingMountains

When Ballard Cassidy, president and CEO of the Kentucky Bankers Association (KBA), introduced Federal Reserve Board Gov. Michelle Bowman this morning, he mistakenly referred to her as the chair of the Fed. He quickly caught the error but added "I wish." Based on the response, it seems he wasn't the only one at the KBA's Annual Convention who feels that way. And over the next hour or so, Bowman demonstrated why she is so popular among the nation's bankers. Much of it has to do with the fact that she was once a banker herself, having worked at her family's community bank in Kansas before becoming the state's banking commissioner and, ultimately, the Fed's designated governor for community banks. During a lengthy and candid Q&A session, Bowman laid out how her experience in the industry has helped her think about bank regulation and how a lack of similar experience among her colleagues has contributed to rules that do not jibe with long-running banking practices. I dig into some of her more significant remarks on merger reviews, fintech partnerships and liquidity reform in my latest for American Banker.
