  • The debate about Amendment 2 is heating up as we approach Election Day on November 5th, raising important questions about access, equity, and the future of education for Kentucky’s students. Amendment 2, while framed as a school choice measure, essentially puts it to Kentucky voters to grant legislative authority to explore what funding outside the public school system would look like. We're sharing a brief history of school choice in Kentucky, perspectives of supporters and opponents of Amendment 2, and a call to action to be an informed voter. What a great couple of days spent in Frankfort gathering for Kentucky Youth Advocate’s Housing Policy Ambassadors onboarding retreat! KYA’s Housing Policy Ambassador cohort is a year long commitment bringing together young adults from across Kentucky to learn, advocate, and push policy relating to housing and eviction prevention. I am excited to be participating in this cohort and working alongside my peers, seasoned advocates, and legislators! Over two days, we got to meet and learn with each other. We had sessions with House Minority Leader, Rep. Derrick Graham and with advocates from Housing & Homeless Coalition of KY (HHCKY), Louisville’s Coalition for the Homeless, and of course KYA. We spent time discussing the current state of housing & eviction in Kentucky & across the nation and what we hope to see changed as we enter into election season & a new legislative session.

  • It's TEN-4 Day 2024! At this morning's press conference, we heard remarks from Barry Dunn of Kosair for Kids and Dr. Shannon Moody of Kentucky Youth Advocates, as well as Dr. Melissa Currie, one of Kentucky’s Child Abuse Pediatricians, and Tamara Brown, the Kentucky's HANDS Program Director in Jefferson County. Both experts offered their unique perspectives on the need to understand the bruising rule as well as to understand the role supporting parents of young children plays in preventing tragedies. Thank you Governor Andy Beshear, Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts Allison Ball and elected leaders throughout Kentucky who proclaimed Friday, October 4th as TEN-4 Awareness Day 2024. The efforts have spread across the nation with TEN-4 Day 2024 also being recognized by the Governors in Arkansas, Massachusetts, Montana, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. As Kentuckians, we are all mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect and have an important role in preventing maltreatment from happening in the first place. --> Check out our press release for details from today's event: https://bit.ly/4dwu7YD --> Learn more about the TEN-4 FACESp Bruising Rule: https://bit.ly/2SGu2u5
