Dedicated to improving the health status of our members through an integrated, managed health care delivery system.

About us

Kern Health Systems, known as Kern Family Health Care, was established in 1993 as a managed care health plan, and is the largest health plan in Kern County. Kern Health Systems is committed to providing quality health care to our members. It is important to ensure good health through continuity of care by connecting each member to a provider of their choice within our provider network. Our extensive provider network includes the Traditional and Safety-Net Providers that historically delivered care to Medi-Cal recipients and private providers throughout Kern County and some parts of Los Angeles County. We believe good patient/physician relationships and effective preventive care are true indicators of our success. We also offer a continuum of care that extends beyond doctor visits. With a full range of health education classes and Care/Disease Management programs, we provide quality educational and preventive services to the population we serve. We are able to achieve this through partnerships with our providers and community-based organizations within Kern County. The difference is clear: We hold the standard high when it comes to quality health care for our members. Our Mission: Kern Health Systems is dedicated to improving the health status of our members through an integrated managed health care delivery system. As Kern Health Systems continues to move forward, we will continue to uphold our mission of being dedicated to improving the health status of our members through an integrated managed healthcare delivery system. As the healthcare landscape has been transformed, we will pursue tomorrow with community and provider innovation, enhanced member access, and strengthened member health and wellbeing...Together.

Kern Family Health Care was the Silver Sponsor of the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's (CHCC) Annual Statewide Convention in Bakersfield, CA last week. We are incredibly honored to have been part of this amazing event in many ways! ✅ Our Chief Health Equity Officer, Traco Matthews, led a workshop titled "Understanding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I): The What, Why, and How", where participants learned about the importance of embracing diversity and creating an inclusive environment in their respective businesses. ✅ Our CEO, Emily Duran, participated in a panel discussion titled "Latinas Mean Business—Breaking Barriers and Reshaping the Business Landscape". She joined an incredible panel of Latina leaders to discuss the crucial role Latinas play in shaping the future of business. Emily shared her insights and experiences as a Latina leader in healthcare. ✅ Our Community Engagement team had a wonderful time connecting with hundreds of event attendees through their informational booth at the event. Thank you to the CHCC for this incredible opportunity to engage with our Hispanic/Latino community. By partnering with organizations like CHCC and the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, we are empowering Latinos to succeed across Kern County, and beyond!

Yesterday, we hosted a DIY Cleaning Products Workshop, led by Happy Whole You. Our employees enjoyed an educational session regarding chemicals and their effects on our bodies. They also learned how to make a natural glass cleaner and an all-purpose cleaner, which they took home. After the workshop, several of our employees were motivated to make their own cleaning products moving forward to protect their health. Big thanks to Happy Whole You for visiting our HQ and leading this wonderful workshop! #KHSBenefits #WorkLifeAtKHS #HealthierYou

Our CEO, Emily Duran, a CSUB alumna and Hall of Fame Inductee, was invited to speak today at CSUB's Staff Development Day. The event's theme, "Runners on the Rise: Building Community Together", perfectly aligns with our belief that building community has an impact on one's personal health and well-being. In her speech, she emphasized how building a strong community benefits not just individuals, but also the well-being of others. It was an honor to contribute to this important discussion on community. We believe that by fostering a sense of community, we can create an environment where individuals can flourish and reach their full potential. #CSUB #BuildingCommunityTogether #Wellness

We were proud sponsors of the California Cardiovascular Institute's (CCI) inaugural "Heart of the City Community Day" event yesterday. A panel of local health care leaders, including our CEO, Emily Duran, discussed the importance of preventative care for heart health, especially with children locally. Thank you to CCI for donating an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to Gameday Sports Academy, and providing training for their staff to become CPR certified. We appreciate CCI's efforts and are proud to partner with them to improve health equity in our community.

When our team heard that nearly 200 homes in the Shirley Lane Elementary School neighborhood were without water for days, we knew we had to step in to help, as many Kern Family Health Care members reside in the affected neighborhood. Our team mobilized immediately and helped the neighborhood throughout the crisis. While we believe in taking care of our members beyond our health plan, we received many messages of gratitude from members and residents. Two of them stood out in particular. Here are their stories.

It's #ThrowbackThursday! With the Back-To-School season being upon us, we couldn't help but look back at the exciting event that we were part of with the Greater Lamont Chamber of Commerce on July 25th. Thanks to our sponsorship, 720 children walked away with brand-new backpacks and essential supplies at their School Supplies and Backpack Giveaway. It was a great way to kick off the new school year!
