⭐Democracy Fellow Spotlight⭐ Last month, Keseb Democracy Fellow Tshepo Fokane of Alliance for Rural Democracy participated in a webinar with Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), where participants discussed rural and urban land reform. A Food For Mzansi article recently highlighted the webinar. “I think some of the key challenges have been a failure, a shortcoming, and a fear from the state to actually tackle this (issue of tenure land reform) head on. Tenure reform could be done in bite size pieces, but it must be done. And that hasn’t happened to date. 🌍 It is important for “the pro-democracy coalition to set aside their differences and act together to prevent authoritarians from trying to fracture that coalition… that is what authoritarians can often try to do best through divide and conquer strategies.” ✨Earlier this month, Keseb hosted a virtual panel discussion with Lara Flint, Farbod Faraji, and Flávia Pellegrino on the topic of ensuring free, fair, and trusted elections. The panelists discussed effective strategies to contain, counter, and sustainably prevent the re-election of authoritarian leaders.
