People often talk about how mental health is a cause/driver of homelessness. Less frequent are the discussions about the effect homelessness has on an individual’s mental health. Today on #WorldHomelessDay and #WorldMentalHealthDay we want to educate about the latter. Below are just a few examples of things our clients have expressed to us. “I try not to sleep.” “You sometimes forget that you’re somebody.” “People say they’ll help, then they can’t or they won’t.” “We have the same needs as everybody else.” “I’m frustrated all the time.” “When something’s weighing heavy on your brain, you just want to rest but can’t.” Keys to Change believes in a holistic approach to ending homelessness. From intake and assessment, to restoring ID, to job placement, to housing, to meals, to family reunification, to healthcare transportation, to clothing, to counseling, and more. Key Campus is a Collaborative Force of partners working together to make an impact. 13 acres. 8 buildings. 15 organizations. Working Together. Ending Homelessness. #EndHomelessness #BeLikeMike #KeysToChangeAZ #CollaborationIsKey🔑

Using the Power of Collaboration to End Homelessness
About us
Keys to Change, formerly known as The Human Services Campus, opened its doors in November 2005. Our mission is "Using the Power of Collaboration to End Homelessness." Located just west of downtown Phoenix, nearly 1,000 individuals per day seek services at the Campus. As a place, 15 non-profit organizations work in collaboration on the Campus to assist each individual's unique requirements to end their homelessness. As a non-profit organization, in addition to overseeing partner collaboration and Campus operations, Keys to Change provides programs that directly serve clients. These programs include Client Intake and Assessment at the Brian Garcia Welcome Center (the "front door" to the campus), Reunification with Family, Post Office Services, Bag Storage and Navigation to Housing. Our staff creates a customized housing plan for each individual, and connects people to all of our partner services on the campus, including identification, physical, dental and mental healthcare, shelter services, meals, benefits, homeless court and employment. Over 2,000 individuals were connected to housing in the past year.

Nathan Smith doing big things! 🙌🏼
The brand new episode of the McQuaid Mission on IT HAPPENS AT STN is up! 🎬 📺 👀 Keys to Change CEO, Amy Schwabenlender, and Keys to Change Director of Programs, Richard Crews, are joined by Nathan Smith, CEO of Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), to discuss the looming financial cliff already forcing cutbacks as organizations face the loss of ARPA funds from the American Rescue Plan. This episode also highlights the services provided by the mailroom at Key Campus. For anyone struggling with homelessness, maintaining contact with potential employers or family is one of the keys to survival. Keys to Change Client Engagement Specialist, Joe Medina, takes the STN team behind the scenes of the mailroom to show how this critical service keeps people connected. Ever heard the expression – you can’t pour from an empty cup? It's #WorldMentalHealthDay and we want to highlight the passion and compassion our staff hold for the work done here on and around the Campus! 🥰🙏🤲🌎 When you’re passionate about your work, it’s tempting to say YES to every new task and each new project. When your work is to serve vulnerable populations, the emotional stakes are high, and the resources are often scarce. This is a recipe for burnout – aka “an empty cup." 💛 So drop us a note in the comments – what do YOU do to fill your cup? What advice do you have for folks who can’t seem to stop pouring long enough to refill? #EndHomelessness #BeLikeMike #Nonprofit #SelfCare #MentalHealth #TakeCare #Recharge #WorkingTogether #Community #CollaborationIsKey🔑

Congratulations, Circle the City!!! The final Women's Wellness Event of the season will be held on 10/31 at the Downtown Family Health Center on the campus. Circle the City will have one of their mobile medical units, along with a mobile mammogram unit, ready to provide essential services once again. We are so grateful for the important work they do! 🙏
Last week, our team at Circle the City came together to host our first fall Women’s Wellness Event, continuing our mission of delivering compassionate care to women facing homelessness. Thanks to the incredible teamwork and dedication of everyone involved, the event was a success, and we were able to complete 20 breast cancer screenings and 11 cervical cancer screenings. Our final Women’s Wellness Event of the year will be on 10/31 at the Downtown Family Health Center on the Keys to Change campus. We’ll have one of our mobile medical units, along with a mobile mammogram unit, ready to provide essential services once again. We’re deeply grateful for the ongoing support of our partners, whose generosity allows us to host these events. As we move forward, we look forward to partnering with more organizations that share our commitment to breaking down barriers to care. Thank you all for your hard work. The smiles and gratitude from the women we served speak volumes about the impact we’re making together. What a beautiful expression of the amazing work our friends at Street Medicine Phoenix do for us!! Im HONORED to be able to work with them on a regular basis as they provide medical, eyecare, harm reduction, and more. Dr. Fauer has come through for us in a pinch with crowd funded lice treatments, cough drops, advice on staff exposure to fentanyl. Their team is positive, compassionate, and a true example of how we, as a community, should care for eachother!!
This genius innovation from Street Medicine Phoenix is bringing clear eyesight to dozens of clients at Key Campus each month! 👁👁 👓 ✨ When you think about it, clear vision is a key component to success in life. We need our eyesight to use technology, read books, fill out forms, and drive a car. But glasses are expensive, and not everyone has access to vision care and insurance. When you’re unhoused, the barriers are even higher. That’s all changing, thanks to our partners at Street Medicine Phoenix – a mobile outreach program out of The University of Arizona’s Public Health department. The team visits Campus on the weekends to set up a mobile screening station. Then, rather than waiting for glasses to be manufactured off-site and delivered via mail, the Street Med team assembles a custom pair of glasses in real time! With empty frames, and a wide range of prescription left- and right-eye lenses, this elegant solution meets our clients where they’re at, with a practical solution to an issue that affects every aspect of life. Thank you, Street Medicine Phoenix! #EndHomelessness #BeLikeMike #Community #Nonprofit #HelpingOthers #GiveBack #Humanity #Leadership #HealthCare #CollaborationIsKey🔑

The homeless crisis in Maricopa County continues to grow, with resources stretched thin as more people experience homelessness than leave it. In this ‘McQuaid Mission’ episode, leaders on the front lines of Maricopa County's homelessness response stressed the need to alter our approach with data-driven decisions, increasing the housing supply, proactive interventions, and breaking out of silos.
