Position Overview The Development Director will partner with the Executive Director to strengthen and build upon the successes to date, elevating and diversifying the annual budget and boosting a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization and beyond. The Development Director is a leader, storyteller, and advocate for KDO. Their passion, commitment, deep understanding, and clarity are crucial in shaping how others perceive and appreciate KDO’s story. A key focus will be cultivating new, dynamic, and maintaining donor relationships through proactive outreach, creative initiatives, and proven programs. They will also have the opportunity to build and coach a high-performing team as our revenue continues to grow. As we start the new year, we are thrilled to announce our new (and first ever) Development Director, Courtney Schmidt! With incredible growth fueled by the need and commitment of our community, creating this new role has been a goal at the forefront of our evolution; it is a monumental milestone and moment for KDO. Courtney comes to KDO with a wealth of knowledge and years of experience in philanthropy and fundraising, having enjoyed a noteworthy career in development at Purdue University in West Lafayette, most recently as the Senior Managing Director, Donor Relations for the College of Engineering. Recognized for her ability to cultivate deep and meaningful connections and her skills in aligning organizational missions with donor interests, ensuring a positive impact on Indiana's children, Courtney is committed to creating lasting social change with strategic vision, passion, and purpose. Beyond her impressive background, Courtney's ability to lead from a mission-centered approach from the get-go blew us away. We wholeheartedly welcome her and cannot wait to watch her and our stellar Team take KDO to new heights.

KDO is humbled to share that we were selected to receive a Strengthening Youth Programs in Indiana Grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. The three-year award of $300,000 will go towards building our organizational capacity to support our ever-growing programming as we respond to the needs of the communities and children that we serve. By supporting KDO's capacity, this grant will help us further advance our mission and its impact through our joyful dance programs that inspire excellence, instill confidence, encourage teamwork, and applaud persistence. As one of 187 organizations to receive grants through the youth initiative, we are abundantly grateful that Lilly Endowment sees the value of our work and believes in its ability to positively impact the lives of Indianapolis children. We look forward to demonstrating what this investment in our work will generate but, more importantly, in connecting with more of our city and its children through dance and the arts.
