⛈ Storm Prepping With a Newborn 👶🏽 In addition to your routine storm preparation, infants have specific needs you should prepare for during hurricane season. And as healthcare providers for moms and babies, we’re always working to help minimize stress and risks for everyone’s wellbeing—especially during this active hurricane season. 👇🏽 This convenient checklist helps outline what newborns and infants will need during and after a hurricane hits your area. The list helps with outlining feeding, clothing, and some essential supplies to have on hand. ✅ A large plastic bin or box to hold your emergency items ✅ A week’s worth of food and water for your newborn or infant which should include ready-to-feed infant formula in single serving cans or bottles ✅ If breastfeeding, up to two boxes of disposable nursing pads ✅ Two packs of diapers ✅ Two packs of baby wipes ✅ Diaper rash cream ✅ Resealable plastic bags (gallon size) for stashing dirty diapers and clothes ✅ Two receiving blankets ✅ A few changes of clothes ✅ A pack-and-play or bassinet ✅ Speak with your baby's pediatrician proactively about any specific preparations related to your baby's unique medical needs Preparing early will help avoid added stress duringSouth Florida's imminent storm threats. 🎗️ We Are Working For a Special 1% Childhood cancers represent approximately 1% of all newly diagnosed cancer cases in the U.S., and it's estimated that about 9,600 kids will be diagnosed in 2024. 💛 These are the precious kids and families that need options to increase their chances of not only surviving their cancer diagnosis, but thriving in survivorship. Our team of 15 clinicians — experts in treating the many types of pediatric cancer — work alongside hospital teams at the Helen & Jacob Shaham Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Childhood cancer remains the leading cause of disease-related death for children under the age of 14. But every day, we are working to eliminate these statics — one day, and one child at a time. This is how #KIDZSupportsGold. Did you know? 💚 The 5-year pediatric cancer survival rates have increased over the past 50 years, improving from 58% in 1975 to an estimated 85% in 2022. 💙 Survivors often experience long-term adverse effects from the disease and/or its treatment as their diagnosis occurs before or during their growth years. ❤️ Conducting clinical trials, which helps with new options for care, is difficult because of the smaller numbers of patients. 👨🏽⚕️ From the Jersey Shore to S. Florida's Shores Dr. Michael J. Thomas knew he wanted to provide exceptional gastroenterology care to kids of all ages, from premature infants to adolescents. He joined the KIDZ GI practice a year ago — at our Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and Port St. Lucie locations — and he's already impacted numerous lives. 👇🏽 Get to know Dr. Thomas in this week's 5 Fast Facts, and take a look at what one of our grateful parents had to say about him below. ⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Dr. Thomas went above and beyond for my daughter and I. My 6-week-old was having issues and he got us into his schedule quickly. He even went out of his way to come by the hospital to meet us and check on her before the appointment. He is easy to talk to and listens well. I have nothing but great things to say!” #gastroenterology #pediatricgastroenterology #pediatrics

Today is the anniversary of #HurricaneAndrew. I got a firsthand look at how courageous the nurses, doctors, and all the staff of Homestead Hospital could be. They climbed out of their own wrecked homes, battered, bruised, traumatized, and showed up to take care of the patients and each other. We formed bonds for life that can never be broken. The wind howled, the building trembled, windows imploded, nurses covered the patients with their own bodies to protect them. The doors had to be chained shut to keep the wind and water out. Every inch of the hospital was full of patients, rooms, hallways, offices, cafeteria. When the sun came up, the brave A Team looked out at total devastation as far as the eye could see. Would anyone come to relieve them so they could find out if their own families were ok? Could they? The doors were unchained, there were dozens and dozens of people outside, injured, dirty, and beat up. The CNO says where are we going to put more patients? But, they weren’t patients. It was the B Team, showing up for their brothers and sisters.

I'm excited to announce the successful completion of my impactful internship at KIDZ Medical Services, where I had the privilege of working closely with Lindsay Mendiola, CPA, MBA, CMPE, CFO, and Nicole Alvarez, CPA , Controller/Accounting Director, on a significant process improvement project. This initiative, known as the Comprehensive Financial Mapping Initiative (CFMI), aimed to enhance financial transparency across Kidz Medical Service’s specialties. During this project, I played a key role in categorizing and analyzing financial data from multiple locations, leading to more precise and location-specific financial statements. This initiative not only streamlined Kidz Medical Service’s financial reporting processes but also provided critical insights that will guide future decision-making and ensure the organization’s adaptability in the ever-changing healthcare industry. Collaborating with the leadership team, including Jolena Seymour, Emilie Martinez, and Henry Romero, MBA, allowed me to gain invaluable lessons in healthcare finance, strategic planning, and the importance of detailed financial management. I am proud of the work we accomplished and excited to apply these experiences in my future career. A big thank you to the entire KIDZ Medical Services team for this incredible opportunity! 😃
