🩺Helping Other NICU Babies👶🏼 At KIDZ, we love to see NICU babies thrive. And that's why we're especially excited to welcome physician assistant, Sofia Sosa, PA-C, to our family! Sofia "graduated" from the NICU back in 1998, and now she's helping other NICU babies do the same. 💚 👉🏽 Swipe to read the sweet letter Sofia and her twin brother sent to the KIDZ NICU team after they went home. 😊 #NICUBaby #NeonatalIntensiveCare #physicianassistant

🏥 👶🏾 Why Newborn Screenings Matter Newborn screenings check for certain serious conditions before symptoms begin. Early detection makes sure that newborns can receive care, treatment, or intervention as early as possible — when it can work best. 💚 KIDZ has always taken the initiative to provide the most advanced neonatal and newborn care, often identifying new ways to help babies thrive. For instance, we started the First Sounds Newborn Hearing Screening Program in 1996, before it became mandated by law. We were one of five centers in the state of Florida involved in its pilot study. 👨🏼⚕️ Our very own co-founder, Jorge E. Perez, MD, was a change champion in helping legislators understand that hearing loss was more common than other conditions that had mandatory testing for newborns. Last year, our team of 25 newborn hearing screening technicians screened more than 18,000 newborns across all our partner hospitals. 👏🏾 #newbornscreening #newbornhearingscreening #newbornscreeningawarenessmonth

🩺 🔬 Pediatric cancer research involves physicians and scientists working collaboratively to advance pediatric cancer treatment through options like clinical trials. And when a child is diagnosed with cancer, our KIDZ hematology/oncology team can have more options for care because of our direct involvement with research. 🎗️ Our team sees firsthand how cancer impacts not only the child, but their entire family as well. And we believe research can make a big difference in their care. Through key partnerships with some of the nation's leading institutions, we're helping to make medical advancements that are life-changing and lifesaving. For example, when 8-year-old Logan Jenner (pictured), who had relapsed acute myeloid leukemia (AML), ran out of standard treatment options, his physician, KIDZ hematologist/oncologist Dr. Maggie E. Fader, recommended the use of a precision medicine clinical trial. Today, two years after treatment, Logan is cancer-free. We currently have more than 50 active clinical studies in pediatric cancer research. From lifesaving, last-option treatments like Logan’s, to minimizing side effects or long-term effects on kids with a cancer diagnosis, we will continue to work to expand their options for care. 📸 Logan is pictured with (L to R) Diana Azzam, PhD, Diana Jenner (mom), Michael Jenner (dad) and Dr. Maggie E. Fader. 💛 Dr. Fader co-led the clinical trial alongside Florida International University cancer researcher, Diana Azzam, PhD. #PediatricCancer #PediatricCancerResearch #ClinicalTrials #childhoodcancerawarenessmonth #KIDZSupportsGold

🏆 Elevating the Standard of Care Many of our highly skilled pediatric specialists are trusted by our hospital partners to lead efforts to elevate patient care. These premier South Florida hospitals trust us to bring the expertise, services, programs, and other quality pieces together to deliver the best care for children and moms — close to home. 🏅 Every day, we strive to provide a higher level of care — alongside our hospital partners — not found everywhere. For example, the pediatric blood & marrow transplant (BMT) program at the Helen & Jacob Shaham Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, once again met the most rigorous standards in BMT care, achieving the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapies (FACT) re-accreditation. And though achieving these highest standards is very important to us, it matters most to the children and families navigating serious health conditions. We work together for them. 💙 💚 🧡 ❤️ #pediatrics #pediatricspecialtycare #pediatrichospitals

🎗️ The expert pediatric hematology/oncology team at KIDZ is proud to be part of this village alongside our partners at Nicklaus Children's Health System. Every day we work together to ensure that children with cancer in South Florida and beyond can have the best, most comprehensive care close to home. 💛 #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth #PediatricCancer
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, an important opportunity for us at Nicklaus Children's Health System to celebrate how far we have come in pediatric oncology. In fact, we treated more than 4,100 children with cancer last year, making us one of the largest pediatric cancer care providers in South Florida. But treating children with cancer takes a village and that village is our community right here in Florida.
