We are deeply grateful to have such dedicated individuals serve on our school board. KISD Trustees Susan M. Jones and Rodney Gilchrist recently attended Manor Middle School’s Parent Night that brought families together to enjoy student performances, connect with local vendors, and celebrate Hispanic Heritage with a flavorful dessert spread. Their commitment fuels our success, creating an environment where our students thrive. Thank you, Mrs. Jones and Mr. Gilchrist for championing our students and believing in their bright futures! #WeAreKISD

The Moody Foundation, along with the CA Group and the Charles Butt Foundation are excited to announce 16 school district finalists have been selected to receive grant funding for the Texas Reads, Texas Leads initiative. The 16 finalists include: - Alief ISD - Arlington ISD - Brownsville Independent School District - Canutillo ISD - Castleberry ISD - Center ISD - Del Valle ISD - Edgewood ISD - Goose Creek CISD - Killeen ISD - La Porte ISD - Lubbock ISD - Mesquite Independent School District - Midland ISD - Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD - San Benito CISD Texas Reads, Texas Leads [TXRL] is a grant initiative that will showcase strategies for using best practices supported in the science of teaching reading (STR) and blended learning pedagogy to improve K-3 reading outcomes. TXRL will leverage local, state and national momentum catalyzing time, attention and resources to increase the likelihood science-based practices become fully integrated across departmental, school and classroom materials. These districts are being considered for a total of $3 million in grant funding plus additional in-kind technical assistance to implement TXRL K-3 Literacy Plans which detail strategic moves, decision points, and district investments to meet ambitious academic outcomes goals for K-3 reading proficiency. The 16 finalists were chosen based on their TXRL application and to reflect Texas’s demographic and geographic diversity with the goal of demonstrating that every K-3 student can master foundational reading skills before 3rd grade, and read on grade level before 4th grade. The finalist cohort reflects a diverse mix of suburban, rural and urban districts, ranging in size from 2,000 to 56,000 enrolled students. Finalist districts will participate in a Leadership Convening and a series of workshops during the 2024-2025 school year to develop their TXRL Implementation Plans. In June 2025, eight winning districts will be selected to each receive up to $250,000 in grant funding to implement their plans. All 16 TXRL finalists will continue to get strategic implementation support through June 2027. All Texas Reads, Texas Leads materials are free and available to any district interested in piloting similar structured literacy approaches. Those resources and more information about the initiative are available on https://lnkd.in/gmYDFKT2.

🌟 Celebrating Excellence in Teaching at Killeen ISD! 🌟 We are thrilled to recognize the outstanding achievements of our educators during the Region 12 Teacher of the Year Reception held at the ESC Service Center in Waco. Our Secondary Teacher of the Year, Spencer Wiley, the head choir director at Harker Heights High School, was in attendance to celebrate this prestigious honor. Spencer’s dedication to his students and passion for music education has fostered a thriving choir program, leading to remarkable achievements such as performing at the Texas Music Educators Association conference for the first time in 25 years! His philosophy of building lifelong lovers of music resonates in every lesson, inspiring students to explore their musical talents. Although our Elementary Teacher of the Year, Keisha Lovell, was unable to attend, Region 12 ensured she felt celebrated! Their Field Service Agent delivered her regional nominee sign and special goodies to the KISD Admin Building. Keisha's journey from a military spouse to an award-winning educator showcases her commitment to her students at Maude Moore Wood Elementary. Her belief in high expectations and strong relationships empowers her second-graders to excel academically and personally. Both Spencer and Keisha began their journey as campus teachers of the year, competing amongst their colleagues. They both exemplify the power of excellence in education in Killeen ISD and the impact of dedicated teachers on their students’ lives. Congratulations to both Spencer and Keisha! You are truly making a difference in our community. 👏 #KISDPride #TeachersOfTheYear #ExcellenceInEducation #InspireAndEmpower Education Service Center Region 12 #KISDP2
