About us

In 1986 Terry and Pat Brett were running a small farm store in Chester County, Pennsylvania, selling organic yogurt made on-site at a biodynamic dairy farm, now known as Seven Stars Farm. During the ensuing 27 years he has grown that store into a group of natural grocery stores that actively reflect his commitment to local farming and his prioritization of organic and fair food. Kimberton Whole Foods is now a multigenerational family business and continues to grow while maintaining a passionate commitment to integrity and sustainability in agriculture. True friends of the farmer, KWF is regularly honored for our ethical business leadership and meaningful contribution to regional sustainable agriculture. Our mission is to serve as a community market with a passionate commitment to integrity, sustainable agriculture, and fair trade. We care for the earth by promoting organic & biodynamic farming methods. We conduct our business in a respectful & ethical manner while building strong cooperative ties within our larger community. We support each individual’s quest to learn more about conscious choices & healthy living. We are committed to honoring each customer with outstanding service.

Last week our co-founder and CEO, Terry Brett, met with the Department of Community and Economic Development Dep. Secretary Mike Hanna Jr. , State Rep. Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz, and State Sen. Judy Schwank in Wyomissing, the home of our seventh location. Hanna’s visit was part of a statewide tour of vibrant downtowns in Pennsylvania and to push for increased funding through the Main Street Matters initiative. Terry Brett shared what brought Kimberton Whole Foods to the Knitting Mills in Wyomissing and the successes of our newest location. Thank you for including us, Michele Bare! 🌻 #berkscounty

A few months ago, we were honored to be the location of The Cornucopia Institute's latest advertisement, produced by Small Hill Films. Parts of the commercial were shot at nearby Seven Stars Farm, our flagship Kimberton Whole Foods store, and even our founder’s home!   The Cornucopia Institute is a non-profit consumer education and watchdog organization that advocates for an organic label consumers can trust. We're proud to support their work. Check out the video here: https://lnkd.in/eMSEcJQ3

Last week, members of our produce teams, marketing, and category management attended Fresh Fest in Manheim, PA! The 2nd Annual Independent Retailer Trade Show & Conference was hosted by our friends at Four Seasons Produce and celebrates all things FRESH! It provides retailers like KWF an opportunity to interact with growers, shippers, meat, dairy, and produce suppliers like Painterland Sisters, Lady Moon Farms, Inc., Thousand Hills Lifetime Grazed, Equal Exchange, and more! We also participated in a check presentation to Pasa Sustainable Agriculture that awarded them over $30,000 from growers, distributors, and retailers like KWF that held Earth Day fundraisers.

This Earth Day, Kimberton Whole Foods is donating .10¢ to Pasa Sustainable Agriculture for every dollar of organic produce sold on Monday, April 22! Pasa works to cultivate environmentally sound, economically viable, and community-focused farms and food systems through education, research, policy, and marketing initiatives. They coordinate year-round workshops and events, administer formal farming apprenticeships, and facilitate research that empowers farmers with data they value. They also work to foster productive connections between farmers, community members, local businesses, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Your purchases will support our local farmers, strengthen our regional food systems, and truly make a difference in supporting sustainable agriculture across Pennsylvania and beyond. Other retailers, growers, and distributors like Four Seasons Produce, Lady Moon Farms, Inc., MOTHER EARTH ORGANIC MUSHROOMS LIMITED, Stemilt Growers, and Harvest Market are also contributing to Pasa Sustainable Agriculture this Earth Week. Your purchases will support our local farmers, strengthen our regional food systems, and truly make a difference in supporting sustainable agriculture across Pennsylvania and beyond.

We’d like to congratulate our partners of over 15 years Chester County Intermediate Unit for the success of their Discover program! Discover is designed to integrate classroom and pre-vocational instruction with on-the-job training, serving students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) between the ages of 16 and 22, to prepare them for success in the workplace and for independent living. This recognition underscores the shared commitment to fostering inclusive environments that value the unique contributions of every individual.   “We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of Kimberton Whole Foods,” stated Lisa Abate, Community Instruction Coordinator at the CCIU. “We believe in empowering our Discover students not only with vocational skills but also with the independence to navigate the world around them. The partnership with Kimberton Whole Foods has been instrumental in achieving this goal, providing real-world experiences that enhance the students’ capabilities and confidence.”   Discover students have actively engaged in vocational experiences at KWF, notably at our Commissary Kitchen, where they have contributed as utility workers. This hands-on experience has not only enhanced their technical skills but has also been instrumental in developing their work ethic and professionalism. Several Discover students have been hired upon graduation from the program.   To learn more about Discover or partnership opportunities, please visit https://lnkd.in/g6_gdcSH
