About us

Whole Foods was founded in 1980 on the belief that where food comes from, and how it’s grown, matters. It meant creating quality standards, working with suppliers who achieve them, and sharing that information with our customers. And it radically changed the way people understood and shopped for food. The result has been the highest quality natural and organic products, an unmatched experience in more than 500+ stores, with a passionate team of over 90,000 team members, 5 percent of our total net profits given back to our communities each year, and millions of customers who put their trust in us every day.

  • TMS Team Member of the Quarter recipient 🏆 "I started my career with Whole Foods Market in 2008 at the Devon store as a part-time Floral Team Member while attending college. I enjoyed the job and the culture of the company so much I decided to go full-time and moved into a supervisor position shortly after. After a couple years in this new role at Devon, I helped open the Glen Mills store in 2012, remaining there for five years and serving as an Associate Team Leader in Produce and Specialty. In 2017, I decided to explore different career paths within the company and stumbled across a PBS opening at the soon to open Exton store. I continued my career path in Team Member Services (TMS), progressing from PBS to TMS Specialist to TMS Generalist to my current role as Senior TMS Business Partner. The people are what keep me at Whole Foods. I love connecting with such a diverse group of Team Members every day, and the capability to provide trusted guidance and mentorship to the stores I support. I love my TMS Business Partner team and owe a lot of my career growth to those who I have connected with. They are such a talented and remarkable group of individuals that sincerely inspire me. Being named TMS Team Member of the Quarter was such a wonderful surprise and a great honor! Empowering our people to reach their full potential is a great passion of mine and such a wonderful part of our culture. I’m excited to continue my personal journey at Whole Foods and hope to motivate others to reach their goals along the way!" - Ross Hyatt, Senior TMS Business Partner #HR #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

  • "Lunar New Year has always been a special time for me, filled with family, tradition and celebration. Growing up in Beijing, I loved helping my parents prepare the feast — dumplings, braised whole fish and their famous braised pork belly — and staying up late with my cousins to play games and watch firecrackers light up the neighborhood. One of my favorite moments was receiving "ya sui qian" (lucky money in red envelopes) from my grandparents and parents, a tradition that always made me feel loved and blessed. Waking up to new red clothes and visiting relatives to exchange well-wishes always felt magical.   Now, as a Principal Seafood Sourcing Leader overseeing Seafood Exclusive Brands at Whole Foods Market for the past two and a half years, and a mom of a two-year-old boy in Austin, TX, I carry these traditions forward while creating new ones. It feels especially meaningful that my work in seafood sourcing connects to traditional Lunar New Year customs, as fish dishes symbolize abundance and prosperity in Chinese culture.   This year, I was deeply touched when our S&PD team organized a Lunar New Year celebration at work. Sharing dumplings, decorating the office with red lanterns, receiving Fortune Cards in red envelopes, and explaining the meaning behind these traditions to my colleagues brought me so much joy. It reminded me how fortunate I am to be part of a team that not only feels like family but also embraces and celebrates cultural diversity. As we welcome the Year of the Snake, I'm filled with gratitude for both my cultural heritage and my professional journey at Whole Foods Market.   The Fortune Card I received this year says, "The greatest fortune is friendship" — let's strive together and dream big!   - Liye Fu, Principal Sourcing Leader 🐍 #HappyLunarNewYear #NourishPeople #NourishConnection #TeamWFM

  • “Ridgewood is a store where people will always drop what they’re doing to help you out — in everyday situations and extraordinary ones, including that day. I credit that environment for empowering me to take action. I’m very grateful for all the recognition, I never expected this much to come out of it. Glad I was in the right place at the right time.” - Alex Purdue, Specialty Service Team Member 💚💚💚 Proud doesn't even begin to express our feelings. 💚 Our immense gratitude goes to you Alex — thank you American Red Cross New Jersey Region for recognizing him! 🔗: https://lnkd.in/gtTNUSv5 #NourishGood #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

Senior Manager at Whole Foods Market

While many know that the holidays are busy at Whole Foods Market, the biggest month of the year for many categories is actually January as folks launch mindful routines. At many retailers, the packaged meat set has a reputation for being unhealthy with highly processed products riddled with fillers, nitrates, and antibiotics. I am proud that at WFM, all the meat we sell has no synthetic nitrates, antibiotics, or hormones and is vegetarian fed with simple and clean ingredient labels. While I'm not a dietician, I take nutrition seriously, and our suppliers will tell you I'm constantly pushing for ways to reduce sodium, sugar, and saturated fats in our products. It is meaningful to me that we offer so many excellent options to help our customers build healthy routines. If you are looking for some inspiration for your next shopping trip, below are five top picks I'd recommend within the frozen and refrigerated meat sets at Whole Foods Market. Bonus: all are on sale now through 1/14! 1. Force of Nature Meats 100% Grass Fed Bison Ancestral Blend: Bison is leaner than beef with an even richer flavor. This blend has liver and heart for extra nutrients (I promise you won't taste a difference!). For those that struggle with iron levels, each serving has 25% of your daily value of iron. 2. Simek's Turkey Meatballs: If you are reluctant to buy turkey meatballs for fear they will be dry or bland, try these meatballs! I love having them gyro style with pita, tomatoes, cucumber, greens, and feta. And of course they are the ultimate weeknight freezer staple to add some protein to pasta. 3. Kevin's Natural Foods Thai Coconut Sous Vide Chicken: Before owning this desk, I'll admit I had never tried Kevin's. As an avid cook, I figured these meals were mainly for folks who couldn't cook. I am a convert! It's nearly impossible to make chicken breast this juicy and tender at home. Not to mention with flavorful, paleo sauces that won't make you miss takeout. My go-to meal is the Thai Coconut meal with rice, green beans, and FLY BY JING Xtra Spicy chili crisp. We carry seven Kevin's flavors at WFM, one for every night of the week. 4. Bilinski Sausage Co Organic Sage Breakfast Sausage: Bilinski differentiates as the leanest sausage in our set. Using 100% skinless chicken, a two link serving has only 60 calories and 9g of protein. 5. North Country Smokehouse, LLC. Organic Canadian Bacon: Most people are shocked to know that pork loin has actually fewer calories than chicken breast per ounce. Canadian Bacon is made with pork loin, and a two slice serving is only 90 calories and 12g of protein. Thank you to our fantastic supplier partners who help us fulfill our mission to nourish people and the planet: Marshall Seedorff, Lindsey Hickey, Jillian Waggoner, Ryan Worsham, Stacie Waters, Jonathan Anderson, and Rachel Markham.

  • “I started my journey with Whole Foods Market in 2009 as a part-time Cashier at our Durham, NC store. When I first walked in, I wasn’t intending to pursue a career in grocery retail, but as many Team Members will tell you, that can very quickly change. Since then, I've had the opportunity to work in six different roles in our stores and three different store support roles on our Team Member Services team. Fifteen years later, people often ask me why I still choose to be here. There are SO many reasons: from our food to our foundations to simply being a part of the Whole Foods family. At certain points in my career, some reasons have been more important to me than others, but there is one in particular that won me over as a new Team Member and has continued to be my anchor.   As a member of the LGBTQ community, it has always been imperative to me to work for a company that lets me be 100% myself — day in, day out. We always hear that visibility matters, that representation matters. Truthfully, I grew into my career and learned to bring my whole self to leadership because I saw myself reflected in the leaders of this company since day one. I have been led and mentored by exceptional, committed and diverse leaders who are successful not in spite of their backgrounds, but because of them.   I was recently promoted to Senior Team Member Services Team Leader for the Southeast Operational Area. Continuing to grow my career at Whole Foods Market is exciting because I get to shift and broaden my scope of impact. I believe we all have an obligation to make our world and workplaces just a little better than how we found them. I’ve learned at Whole Foods that authenticity builds trust and gives others the opportunity to leverage their unique world perspective to positively impact us all. I’m excited to bring all of myself to this new role and give every Team Member the permission and encouragement to do the same. Because when we allow someone to show up authentically 100% of the time, who knows what they’ll have the confidence and courage to bring to the table.” - Andrea Mastrobuono, Senior Team Leader, TMS Business Partner #HR #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

Founder Forkin Knife ATX Former SVP Merchandising Whole Foods Market

What a ride it’s been—nearly 30 years! I’ve often imagined what it would feel like to write this note and what I would say when the time finally came. Well, that time is here. I’ve decided to pursue the next chapter and my time with Whole Foods Market will end January 3rd, 2025. I do so full of gratitude, love, nostalgia, and excitement for what’s ahead. Whole Foods Market will always hold a special place in my heart and I will remain a face-painted diehard fan rooting for my WFM family and the community of stakeholders. Reflecting on my journey, I’ve always strived to support our mission and purpose wholeheartedly and authentically and lead with unwavering dedication and just get it done love. I tried to foster growth in our business with integrity, always seeking a win-win. The dynamic and challenging world of food has been both exhilarating and demanding. However, what WFM has given me far surpasses my contributions. I found love which gave me our lively family of five. I’ve forged lifelong friendships and established enduring relationships with suppliers and partners worldwide, all thanks to Whole Foods Market. I’ve been entrusted with the opportunity and responsibility to lead my area of the business, granted the freedom to create, innovate, and even fail. Each experience has been a chance to learn, grow, and face obstacles head-on. After each demanding role concluded, I often thought nothing could be more challenging—until the next opportunity arose. I am grateful for the opportunities and wouldn’t change a thing—perhaps just a detail or two. I made my way by embracing risks and diving in headfirst when needed and was never interested in the safe or comfortable path. My initial passion for food, deeply rooted in my upbringing within a large Italian family in the basements of Detroit, evolved into a curiosity and desire to explore, learn, and share food experiences with others. This passion remains, but it’s the people who kept me around for so long. My favorite WFM quote was shared during a Vision Day event in Chicago years ago, “Without the people, we are only four walls and food.” Much of who I am and what I know is because of the amazing individuals I’ve had the fortune to work alongside, learn from, and respectfully challenge along the way. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire Whole Foods Market Community. Embarking on new adventures has always invigorated me, this next chapter will be distinct, lacking the infrastructure and everyday support of my WFM colleagues, yet I aspire for it to be equally compelling. I’m eager to apply the knowledge and skills cultivated during my time at WFM, to build something uniquely my own. Some of my new fun will include scaling Bakesy Bakeshop, my wife’s cookie business and launching a new venture, Forkin Knife ATX. While a mix of emotions accompany this transition, I’m confident it’s the right time, and I look to the future with excitement and optimism. Happy New Year! #teamwfm
