Today, KGS recognizes Seward’s Day, a significant moment in Alaska’s history. This day commemorates the signing of the Alaska Purchase Treaty on March 30, 1867, when the United States acquired Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million – just two cents per acre. Many saw this purchase as “Seward’s Folly”, doubting its value. But history proved otherwise. Alaska’s rich resources, strategic significance, and vibrant Native cultures have shaped its legacy. As an Alaska Native Corporation, KGS is proud to honor this history while driving growth and opportunity for future generations. We celebrate the strength of our people and the vision that continues to guide us forward. #SewardsDay #AlaskaNative #HonoringOurHeritage
