About us

We are among the TOP 50 AI companies globally according to Forbes, dedicated to Democratizing AI on the Modern Data Stack. The team behind PyG (PyG.org) is working on a turn-key solution for AI over large scale data warehouses. We believe the future of ML is a seamless integration between modern cloud data warehouses and AI algorithms. Our ML infrastructure massively simplifies the training and deployment of ML models on complex data. With over 40,000 monthly downloads and nearly 13,000 Github stars, PyG is the ultimate platform for training and development of Graph Neural Network (GNN) architectures. GNNs -- one of the hottest areas of machine learning now -- are a class of deep learning models that generalize Transformer and CNN architectures and enable us to apply the power of deep learning to complex data. GNNs are unique in a sense that they can be applied to data of different shapes and modalities.

Partner at Sequoia Capital. AI Engineer & Investor.

Earlier this week I had a board meeting with one of our amazing companies. Something was weighting heavy on the founders. As one founder put it, "I think Gen AI is going to fall off a cliff." The statement was backed by experience. This founder has been in AI for over a decade. The founder has lived through AI cycles. What came next was a discussion about previous AI waves. The current AI wave, Gen AI, isn't the first. And it won't be the last. There have been at least three waves of AI this century: Predictive (2000s-2013), Descriptive (2013-2021), and Generative (2021-now). Each had "hype cycles" and the first two are now past those cycles and into their most productive years (see Gartner hype cycle image for the lingo). Predictive: This "OG" AI takes in numbers and generates numbers. The hype around Predictive AI died out over a decade ago. But, my guess is that predictive AI has generated over $5T in hardened market cap. Consider Meta. In 2021, iOS 14 issued new privacy policies. When Meta lost that ability to track many users, investors worried about their ad model. Between Sept 2021 and Nov 2022, Meta lost 75% of its market cap (image below), over $650B lost. However, their huge investment in Predictive AI actually resulted in even better predictions in some cases. Since the low, Meta is up over $1T. Predictive AI may account for a lot of that. Now, consider Google(most search results are based on click-through rankings), Netflix (as much as 75% of what's watched are from recommendation algos), Amazon and others. $5T could be conservative. Descriptive: This AI takes in images / words and generates numbers. My guess is that descriptive AI has generated on the order of $1T in hardened market cap, maybe less. Descriptive AI hype died around 2017. The largest application of descriptive AI is autonomous vehicles. The star public company in this space is Telsa. Consider the market's -8% reaction the day after the robotaxi event this month, about a $50B change in Tesla's market cap, some amount due to autonomy. One could guess that $100B+ of the market cap of Tesla can be attributed to the vision of autonomy in its present and future systems. Another star is Waymo. Tesla and Waymo are just a piece of the descriptive AI revolution. Not to mention thousands of CV and NLP applications in big companies and startups. In five years, my guess is this will be $5T+. Generative AI: This AI takes in images/words and generates images/words. The hype is real for Gen AI. So is the value. But if you sum all the uses up my guess is we don't get close to $100B of sustainable revenue (at a 10x, $1T market cap) yet. My guess is on the other side of hype (10 year vision), Gen AI will be as consequential or more so than Predictive AI ($5T++) but will take a few years. Gen AI builders, buckle up. Keep calm and build. On the other side of whatever doldrums we may face is several decades of great opportunity and trillions in market creation potential. Endure.
