"Kentucky Student Voice Team has been on a bus tour trying to convince voters to hit the brakes on Amendment 2. KSVT is a non-profit group of more than 100 middle and high schoolers. One of its members is Ivy Litton, a senior at Rowan County High School. During a recent stop in central Kentucky, she said she's concerned her school would be disproportionately affected by Amendment 2 since rural districts rely more heavily on state funding." https://lnkd.in/evwTunAW

💰because public money should be used for public schools. 🏫 because for rural communities, school vouchers take away choice by siphoning education dollars to wealthy urban families. 💪🏿and because strong public schools are essential to strong democracies on sunday the Kentucky Student Voice Team hit the road for our amendment 2 “myth bus-tour”. our team traveled to lexington, frankfort, and louisville hosting “teach-ins” to raise awareness and share student perspectives about the impact school vouchers will have on kentucky’s public schools. school vouchers have become hot button topics in many communities this election cycle—but kentucky is one of few states where students themselves are bringing energy, passion, and expertise to prevent the privatization of our public schools. and they are already making a difference. 🗳️

Talk about driven! Kentucky Student Voice Team's Amendment 2 Myth Bus Tour not only featured a repurposed vehicle, but it also centered young people from across the state with a serious purpose. Their mission? To school the public about school vouchers and what is at stake with Kentucky's proposed constitutional amendment this November. To do this, at every stop, the team endeavored to engage the public and the press with both expert knowledge and their own lived experience as students in the system. And while the extent of their impact remains to be seen, the effort more certainly underscores that too young to vote does not mean too young to have a voice in civic life. #A2bustour

Arizona pioneered the largest school choice program in the history of American education, promising better opportunities for students. But instead, they’re facing a $1.4 billion budget shortfall — and their public schools are struggling more than ever. And the devastation doesn’t end there. Arizona’s school choice program diverted $332 million to private school subsidies, with nearly half of that going to families in the wealthiest zip codes — families already sending their children to private schools or homeschooling. Arizona taxpayers footed the bill for private education — while their public schools, already ranked 49th in per-pupil funding, are left in crisis. To put it simply: Public schools in lower-income areas have been left underfunded, understaffed, and overwhelmed. If this can happen in Arizona, it can happen here. Here's what $300M could fund instead here in Kentucky. Know before you vote in this next month!
