Starting a venture fund isn’t just a bigger version of angel investing—it’s an entirely different game. Suddenly, it’s not just your capital at risk; it’s the trust and money of others, demanding a level of discipline, accountability, and long-term thinking that few anticipate. When we started Laconia, we thought, “How hard could this be?” Spoiler: much harder than we imagined. But through partnerships, early believers, and a relentless focus on execution, we’ve built something that’s stood the test of time. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gDqjXxPS

When we first met Sam Bobley, Ocrolus’s founder, his passion and conviction were undeniable. He was tackling a massive pain point—automating the manual processing of financial documents—with a clear vision and relentless drive. Today, Ocrolus is a fintech powerhouse, delivering unmatched scalability and market fit, with a team that embodies the grit and collaboration we value at Laconia. We’re thrilled to continue being part of their journey and can’t wait to see what they achieve next.

Our portfolio company Sunairio was featured in pv magazine Global! CEO Rob Cirincione discussed how their high-resolution climate simulation platform models 1,000 weather outcomes to help build a more reliable grid for the future. 💡 Read more below!
Our CEO Rob Cirincione recently sat down with pv magazine Global for a conversation on our high-resolution climate simulation platform and its ability to move us toward a more reliable grid as the clean energy transition evolves. Our platform leverages highly granular data — in terms of both time and geographic precision — to simulate 1,000 probabilistic outcomes of future hourly weather. These potential outcomes cover electricity demand as well as solar and wind generation. As Rob explained to PV Magazine: “It was not as important when renewable wind and solar were only 5% of all energy sources but that is changing." Read the full article here and comment below with your questions: https://lnkd.in/gw77jtm9 And thanks to Valerie Thompson for the great conversation!

How does a bar conversation about angel investing turn into a venture capital firm? For Jeffrey Silverman and David Arcara, it wasn’t about a master plan—it was about following curiosity, embracing collaboration, and discovering where the path leads. What started with informal dinners and pitching ideas grew into a hands-on, founder-first approach to early-stage investing. Along the way, Jeffrey and David learned, adapted, and leaned into what they knew best: supporting entrepreneurs with real-world experience and a collaborative spirit. In their latest blog post, they share how these small steps and unexpected moments came together to create Laconia. 👉 Check out their journey: https://lnkd.in/gxMB55ff
