Preliminary raw data from the 2024 Homeless Count shows that unsheltered homelessness has decreased for the second year in a row. These numbers are in line with the decrease seen last year. Questions have been raised about the system, but these numbers show we're on the right track with County-City-LAHSA collaboration. Everyone deserves to be cared for, no matter their personal challenges. This is especially true for Shawn of North Hollywood, who has suffered great loss, from becoming paralyzed to the passing of his brother and his daughter. The last couple of months have reminded us all how disaster can strike at any time. After four years of living in her Canoga Park RV, someone set it on fire, leaving Maria with nothing—everything she had ever owned was gone and her dog had perished. After falling ill, Elona was unable to work. She first lost her job, then her apartment, a situation that impacted many Angelenos experiencing homelessness. She found refuge at the train station, where Los Angeles Metro's outreach team encountered her and offered assistance. Shortly afterward, she moved into LAHSA’s Welcome Navigation Center. Exciting news! @IvoryInnovations, an organization committed to inspiring creative solutions to local and national housing affordability challenges, has selected LAHSA’s Master Leasing as a Top 25 Finalist for the 2025 Ivory Prize! Master Leasing is truly a game-changer! This program secures rental units from private landlords with government backing, ensuring immediate housing and support services for Angelenos experiencing homelessness. By removing financial risk from property owners and offering guaranteed occupancy, we’ve created a scalable approach to addressing homelessness that could be replicated in many other places across the nation. LAHSA staff are dedicated to saving lives and making a lasting impact in our community. Bianca's journey is a powerful reminder of this commitment. Transition Aged Youth are young people between the ages of 18 and 24, making up 3% of LA’s homeless population. At LAHSA, we do all we can to ensure this vulnerable community is cared for.
