Lake State Railway Company (LSRC) is a Michigan - based progressive short line railroad that has been providing "excellence in transportation" since 1992. LSRC's approximate 300 miles of track run from Flint through its headquarters in Saginaw, up to Gaylord and Alpena. Lines also run to Midland, Bay City, and Paines.

This week Lake State Railway had the pleasure of hosting Short Line Safety Institute as they trained our leaders through their Leadership Development Program "Leading Forward"! We had over 20 supervisors/managers from all crafts participate in the training module. LSRC would like to thank Short Line Safety Institute for putting on such an awesome course!

Mike will officially take over the roll starting in Mid-July as John Rickoff transitions to Chairman of the Board. Lake State Railway would like to thank John Rickoff for his leadership over the past 14 years as he built a team that truly exemplifies "Excellence in Transportation". We would also like to welcome aboard Mark Rosner who joins our executive team.
I am honored and excited to become the third CEO of LSRC and lead a fantastic team of railroaders. Congratulations to John Rickoff as he transitions to Chairman of the Board this July. The last 14 years of growth under John’s leadership has been exceptional. I am confident our team will continue on an aggressive growth trajectory, and build on a foundation of safety and service driven operations. I would also like to welcome Mark Rosner to our executive team. Mark brings a wealth of experience to our team.

We are pleased to introduce ourselves! We are the Short Line Safety Institute (SLSI), dedicated to helping organizations across the U.S. improve safety culture, safety training and leadership. We started out nearly 10 years ago focused on working with Class II and III railroads, but our ability to serve the industry has grown exponentially. SLSI now offers, at no cost: • Safety culture assessments and resources for short line, regional, passenger and commuter railroads • Hazardous materials training and resources for railroads and first responders • Leadership development through the Leading Forward – Skills Development for Railroad Professionals course • Assistance in developing a Transportation Emergency Response Plan (TERP) We also conduct important industry research, and we are eager to talk about all these topics and more on our LinkedIn page. Pengelly, a 2017 UIUC graduate with a BS in civil engineering and rail transportation, works with projects and development at Lake State Railway Company in Saginaw, Mich.
