Happy Labor Day! While many workers today enjoy the day off, they may not realize the working conditions that led to its creation. In the 1880s, manufacturing workers averaged more than 60 hours a week at their job, with many working seven days a week. These long hours inspired union organizers to fight for a shorter workday and work week, and more days off. By shortening the work week, the working class became the consuming class. President Grover Cleveland to sign the Labor Day bill into law in June 1894.

The Lakeside Bank Park Ridge branch Third Annual “𝑩𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒕𝒐 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍 𝑭𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝑭𝒖𝒏 𝑭𝒆𝒔𝒕” was Saturday, August 24. It was a warm, beautiful day, with a light breeze to keep everyone comfy. Over 200 of our Park Ridge neighbors joined us and enjoyed a Bouncy House (well, the kids primarily enjoyed this), The Reptile Guy, Face Painting, animal balloons, giant bubbles, games … and even a roving Magician to amaze everyone! We grilled burgers and hot dogs, there was pizza and an ice cream truck with lots of choices! The handsome fella on the left is Mickey. A Great Dane. Mick’s coloring is called “Mantle”, so his full name is … “Mickey Mantle.” Mick was Lakeside’s SVP/Chief Marketing Officer’s buddy … his constant companion for over 13 years. The photo is of Mickey in his prime. Sadly, Mick passed away recently. 13+ years is ancient for a Dane. No matter how long you have your four-legged friend, it’s never long enough. Hug your pup today… “Appreciation Day" doesn’t begin to cover the emotional bonds that connect us. Everyone misses you, Mickey.
