The history of Alaska Native military service dates back to World War II with the Alaska Territorial Guard, which consisted primarily of Alaska Natives. For those who attended the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) last month, candid portraits and stories of Alaska Native veterans lined the main hallway of the Dena'ina Center. Today is a special day to recognize and appreciate the service and sacrifices of our country's military veterans at home and abroad, especially our Alaska Native military veterans.
