Recruiters: Would you trust an AI tool to conduct recruiter screens for you? Candidates: Would you be open to interviewing with an AI tool? I'll be honest, I was REALLY skeptical when I first met with Braintrust to try out their AI interview tool, AIR. I went in armed with a laundry list of concerns. But after demo'ing the tool (which you can check out in this video!) I was actually surprised at what a great experience it was! The highlights: 💡 From the recruiting perspective, I realized this could really broaden the number of people we could bring into our pool and the speed with which we could move candidates forward, and in particular, help us consider profiles that may not be "perfect" on paper.  💡 As a candidate, I loved the flexibility of doing this when I wanted to, how AIR told me what it was looking for, and receiving detailed feedback right after the interview. I could also see from the feedback that AIR was actually translating my experience to the role - not just looking for "buzz words" from the job description. Recruiters would still need to connect with candidates to share more about the company, talk about compensation and benefits, etc. But this could certainly speed things up - especially for high volume hiring, or roles where there's a lot of urgency to move quickly. So after watching the video, what do you all think?! PS. I do have a partnership with Braintrust but don't take my word for it - you can try it for yourself here: https://hubs.li/Q02VJMPs0

If you're looking to make a career pivot in 2024, here are the best "hacks" I can offer you: 🤝 Lean on your network. Unfortunately when you don't have direct experience, getting introductions and referrals from people who know your work and can speak to your qualifications can help companies feel more confident giving you a chance. 🗣️ Talk the talk of the job your applying for. I'm dropping a video I made as a part of my partnership with Teal earlier this year as an example of how you can look at job descriptions and create aligned bullet points. Consider the terminology your target industry uses and talk about your work in the same way. An example from my own experience - most of my hiring was teachers and principals, but when interviewing for jobs outside of education, I focused on the headquarters roles that would translate better. 🤸 Be flexible. When pivoting to a new field, being willing to take a step back in level or compensation or working on site might help speed things up. Smaller companies may see your variety of experience as a big selling point since they often need employees wearing multiple hats - but you may sacrifice some benefits. Focus on industries that are hiring aggressively now (like construction, healthcare, and education). Consider what's non-negotiable, and where you can flex on your requirements if you want to speed things up. And brace yourself: In this current job market, career pivots are definitely tougher than they were in say 2021 when everyone was hiring! But they aren't impossible, and hopefully these tips help you be one of the success stories of 2024!

Educators in my network, check this out!!

    Senior Vice President at TNTP

Looking for teachers who are game to share how they're being asked to spend their time! TNTP is beginning a new research project where we want to understand how teachers are being asked to spend their time. We will be looking at what existing research has said about how much time teachers spend on different aspects of their work, how teachers feel about their time use, how it's recently changed due to technology, and how it differs by school contexts. Before reviewing existing research, we want to talk with current K-12 teachers to hear their thoughts about the types of activities on which they are currently spending time. We are assembling a panel of 20 teachers to hear their opinions. Participating in this panel includes: Joining a 30-60 minute virtual focus group with other panel participants in October or November. Reviewing a presentation summarizing what TNTP learned after reviewing existing research on teacher time use. Joining a 30-60 minute virtual focus group to provide feedback on TNTP's presentation. Teachers who are selected to join the panel and complete the above three tasks will receive a $150 stipend. To indicate interest in participating, teachers can provide their information at this form: https://lnkd.in/dZJ-Savj We will then randomly select 20 teachers from all those who indicate they are interested.

“Recruitment is broken.”  “Applying to jobs just feels pointless…I’m lucky if they even bother to send a rejection.”  “Is anyone even hiring anymore?” I hear comments like this from jobseekers every day. At the same time, I have a huge network of recruiters that I talk to regularly, and they’re often drowning in applicants, struggling to navigate varying requirements and laws when hiring globally, or to find people who meet the hiring team’s strict requests. As a recruiting leader myself, one of the things I’m committed to is constantly exploring new tools and developing myself so I can do right by our candidates. Halloween evening is for trick-or-treating, but Halloween day is for attending this KILLER panel hosted by the team at Plane. 👻 They’ll be talking about hiring in a global, remote environment, and I think this will be a great conversation for anyone working in Talent Acquisition or HR in a global company! The panel includes Nadia Vatalidis (she/her/hers) (Head of TA at Camunda), Hebba Youssef (CPO at Workweek), and Matt Drozdzynski (Co-Founder and CEO of Plane). I hope you’ll join me! And if you have topics you hope the panel will discuss, drop them below!! P.S. Register here! https://lnkd.in/gX52uPAh #planepartner

Hey, did you hear that Zapier is hiring a Product Manager? Or that there is a Social Media Manager role available with Crunchbase? And Yeti? They need a Director of Talent. Gusto is hiring Customer Success Managers and Chewy is searching for Machine Learning Engineers. Awesome opportunities, all, no doubt. Great companies, I hear. If any one of those roles is well-aligned with what you're searching for, you should definitely go give the job-posting a gander, determine whether you're well-qualified, and if so, apply. I'm not linking to those roles or companies because their TA teams don't actually need more applicants. BUT. Check this out. There's also a company called Govini that’s hiring a Product Manager and another called Modere in search of a Social Media Manager. ScribeAmerica is hiring a Director of Talent and Incredible Health needs Customer Success Managers. And finally, If you’re a Machine Learning Engineer, there’s a company called Xometry in the market! Look y'all. I know the idea of working for a big, name brand company is appealing, but you need to know that when you center your job-search on companies that everyone has heard of, you will always be a very small fish in a very large pond full of applicants. The alternatives I outlined above? They're all with organizations that have fewer than 300 employees (in some cases, A LOT fewer), and each of them currently has only a few dozen clicks here on LinkedIn. Which of these do you think offers you better odds? Don't sleep on small businesses, y'all.

Y'all, the October Onslaught has arrived at Zapier. What's the October Onslaught? Oh, it's a phrase I just coined for when we suddenly post a lot of roles in October and need you to apply!! We've added quite a few roles this week, and my team will be posting several additional roles across a range of levels/locations THIS week! Here's some of what you get when you join Zapier: 👩💻100% remote (FOREVER - we have no offices!) 💰Competitive compensation with bonuses/equity plans (varies by location - compensation is listed in the job description, and discussed live with your recruiter in your first conversation!) 🏝️Flexible PTO 🤗Awesome and supportive values and company culture And here are my TOP TIPS to land an interview: ❌ Emails/DMs are not considered applications. In order to be considered, you must apply directly to the position posted on our jobs page. ❓Please take the application seriously. We care more about those responses than we do about your resume. Complete those questions thoroughly. ⏰ While we are remote, we do typically have time zone/location constraints on roles so read the posting for those details. ✅ We typically see that strong applicants meet most of the descriptors in the "About You" section (and show this on their resume/application). I will share some links around what to expect in the hiring process, as well as some specifics on roles I could use the support of my network in drumming up more applicants! Excited to hire some awesome people to join the team!!!
