dad | co-founder at candidate.fyi | building the future of interview scheduling automation

It's been two years since I left my job at Google to build candidate.fyi with my brother, Kyle Connors Can you believe we started a RecTech business in August 2022? The timing couldn’t have been worse. Big tech started layoffs, and every company followed Recruiting teams were decimated Budgets cut, tools being ripped out, thousands left without jobs It was one of the scariest markets to be in Investors wanted nothing to do with recruiting tech But it didn’t stop us It would have been so easy to give up We kept pushing forward, kept grinding, and methodically grew the brand Fast forward to today, and we’re one of the most exciting platforms in TA, with a massive following We’re direct, authentic, and never bullshit our customers, prospects, or anyone else We support some of the best brands in the world that continue choosing us as their preferred solution Companies like Salesloft, GoPro, Allbirds, Discord, Madhive, Automattic, Synthesia, Yext, and so many others…starting to lose count. Our team works super hard, we never take ourselves too seriously, and our customers absolutely love us If you’re debating taking the plunge to build a startup, just do it and work your ass off

Does a candidate's experience have an impact on offer acceptance? Our hunch was yes, but we decided to dig in and find out We took all offers that have been put out, then looked at the average pulse scores of candidates from candidate.fyi who rejected vs. candidates who accepted the offer The results? Average of candidates who rejected: 4.73 Average of candidates who accepted: 4.81 Our hunch was right, but not by a huge difference (~2%) It is important to note that both of these scores (4.73 + 4.81) are both higher than the overall average (4.57) This tells us candidates who at least receive an offer are having a more positive experience than average (and this includes scores before they even received an offer too)

Introducing candidate.fyi Training Paths Consistency and quality of interviews can make or break a candidate's experience But here’s the challenge - many hiring teams struggle with a limited pool of qualified interviewers, leading to delays and potential loss of top talent Imagine a world where interview bottlenecks are a thing of the past, and your team can seamlessly scale its interviewing capacity Say hello to Training Paths! With Training Paths, you can: ✅ Design custom training programs - like shadowing and reverse shadowing—tailored to your team's needs ✅ Easily enroll trainees and let candidate.fyi automatically recommend trainees based on their availability ✅ Auto-graduate trainees to become qualified interviewers, ready to jump into action as soon as they’ve completed their training. By expanding your pool of qualified interviewers, Training Paths empowers your team to conduct more interviews, faster, and with greater consistency Say goodbye to interviewing bottlenecks by growing your qualified interviewers on autopilot

Do reschedules impact a candidate's experience? 🤔 Given candidate.fyi powers both candidate experience scores (pulses) and scheduling, we dug into the data to find out First, let me explain what a pulse submission is - it's a 1-5 rating that candidates provide at any stage of their interview process. Simple, but powerful. So, we calculated two simple metrics: 1. The average pulse score of candidates who had a rescheduled interview 2. The average pulse score of candidates who didn’t experience any reschedules The result? Candidates who did not have a reschedule had a 5% higher average pulse score than those who did Average score with reschedules: 4.37 Average score without reschedules: 4.57 Takeaway? Reschedules do have an actual impact

    Founding Growth @ candidate.fyi

Hey friends 👋 I'm so excited to announce that I've joined the amazing candidate.fyi team as the Founding Sales Development Representative! As someone who just got done with a grueling job search, I can relate to all the disappointed and disillusioned job seekers out there who are tired of being ghosted by recruiters, rescheduling interviews, and not knowing where they stand in the hiring process. Luckily, those days will soon be in the past... 🤫 candidate.fyi is paving the way for a recruiting process that's more transparent, straight-forward, and human, and I'm so thrilled for the opportunity to make an impact. Special shoutout to Chris Connors and Kyle Connors for making it all happen! So excited to be a part of candidate.fyi's success!  🚀

Ever wonder why candidates walk away with a negative experience? We decided to jump into negative feedback on candidate.fyi and find out first hand what's really going on Feedback is all over the place, so we took the approach of bucketing into themes based on the feedback The top three themes were: 🕐 Time 📢 Feedback 🛠 Process Let's break it down: Time: - Long waiting periods - frequent mention of long waiting times between interview stages of delays in scheduling - Inefficient scheduling - back-to-back interviews with little time for breaks or interviews being scheduled at inconvenient times for candidate - Lengthy process - unnecessarily lengthy process with too many stages or a drawn-out timeline Feedback: - No follow-up after the interview - left in the dark after an interview, with no info about the outcome or areas for improvement - Generic or delayed responses - when feedback was provided, it was often generic or delayed - Unclear rejection reason - candidates were frustrated without a clear reason for rejection Process: - Clarity & structure - interview lacked clear structure, making it difficult to understand the expectations - Consistency across interviews - concerns about inconsistencies across different stages or with different interviewers - Unprepared & unprofessional interviewers - interviewers seemed unprepared or disinterested The good news is most (if not all) of these are solvable problems!

A calendar invite is the backbone of how we organize our days. It's our go-to tool for remembering the when, where, who, and what of every meeting. But when it comes to interview scheduling, the traditional calendar invite falls short. For candidates, they need: - A clear schedule of all their interviews - Details on who they're meeting with - Information about the interview focus and any prep materials For interviewers, they need: - The specific time of their interview - Insights into the candidate's background (like their resume) - A quick and easy way to provide feedback after the interview Here's the problem: - Candidates often have multiple interviews with the same company, leading to cluttered calendars. - Interviewers don’t need to see candidate prep materials. - Candidates don’t need their resumes in every invite. - Feedback links don’t need to be visible to candidates. That's where candidate.fyi steps in. We supercharge the standard calendar invite by offering: - Separate invites for candidates and interviewers: Each gets their own tailored invite with only the information they need, but everything stays perfectly synced. - Single invites for candidates across multiple interviews: If a candidate has several interviews on the same day, we consolidate them into one streamlined invite, while still giving each interview and interviewer their own dedicated space. With candidate.fyi, everyone gets exactly what they need, without the clutter. And the best part? This all works right out of the box.
