In 2017 Congress enacted the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which provided tax reductions in many different categories, but one of the most significant was that it nearly doubled the Estate Tax and Lifetime Gifts Exemption. However, these tax cuts were not made permanent and are set to expire on December 31, 2025, unless Congress acts to extend them, but a carefully executed estate plan can take advantage of the current larger tax exclusions.
