On Wednesday, we launched the College Hacks Workshops with our first Mental Health Support session, facilitated by our partners at Mental Health America of Central Carolinas, Kevin Markle and Tatiana Leon. During this interactive session, both students and staff engaged in learning effective strategies for managing defensive behavior to prevent physical confrontations with individuals who may have lost control in various environments, such as school or work. Our scholars shared valuable experiences, illustrating situations they have encountered and discussing their preferred methods for self-care. Self-care is essential, and it is important for us to prioritize it daily. How do you take care of yourself? 🌟 GREAT NEWS 🌟LAWA ANNOUNCES DANIELA IZURIETA AS NEW PRESIDENT  Latin Americans Working for Achievement (LAWA), a leading nonprofit dedicated to advancing the quality of life and education of Latinos, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Daniela Izurieta as the new CEO and President of the company, effective August 28, 2024. Daniela Izurieta’s extensive background prepares her with a profound understanding of the challenges faced by Latino families, making her well-suited to drive LAWA’s mission forward. Originally from Quito, Ecuador, Daniela has been a Charlotte resident since 2003, holding both a BA from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Master’s from UNC-Charlotte. “I am honored to join LAWA and lead such an impactful organization. As a first-generation LAWA scholar, I relied heavily on mentors and the community to achieve my educational goals, and as CEO of LAWA, my goal now is to enable other students to reach theirs. The experience and journey that brings me to this role cement my belief that supporting and investing in our community is crucial in developing young talent and advancing the education and quality of life of Latinos in the Charlotte region,” said Daniela Izurieta. “I look forward to working with our dedicated team and Board, as well as our community sponsors, donors, and partners as we continue building on the strong foundation established by previous leadership.
