Thank you to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, thank you to the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts, and thank you to the constituents of Lawrence.
📚 Today marked a significant milestone for the Library Administration as we participated in the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners committee meeting. For the first time, the waiver that has been placed on the City of Lawrence for nearly two decades was officially voted out. This momentous decision was made possible by a motion from our predecessor, Jessica V. Vilas Novas who serves on the commission. It’s a bittersweet moment, especially knowing that this change comes after the passing of our beloved Board of Trustee member, Suzanne McHugh Piscitello, who dedicated over 50 years of service and was a trailblazer as the first woman on the Board. As the Library Director, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our community, the Mayor and his administration, City Council, and our partners and constituents. Most importantly, I want to thank my incredible staff for their commitment and support. From the beginning, we pledged to hit the ground running, and we have never looked back. It is an honor and privilege to return to a community that has given me so much. I'm proud that our administrative team is composed tremendously of Lawrence residents, including myself, and we were able to share this moment together. Thank you to the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners for your unwavering support, and thank you, Governor Maura Healey for recognizing the importance of democracy and the vital role that libraries play in our society.
