Today we joined state and local leaders to help cut the ribbon on a new urban room in Worcester’s Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) District! Following interior renovations, this urban room will now serve as a community center for residents to gather and learn about the neighborhood and access expanded programming from the Pleasant Street Neighborhood Network Center and local partners like Worcester Common Ground and MassHire. A key part of the Worcester TDI Partnership, the Pleasant Street Neighborhood Network Center received TDI Technical Assistance from MassDevelopment via the Future of Small Cities Institute, whose founder, Reif Larsen, pioneered the “urban room” concept and facilitated the redesign of the Network Center. The redesign includes interior renovations to maximize the use of the space into functional zones, allowing multiple uses to take place at the same time, making the space handicap accessible, and adding new lighting and amenities. In 2024, the Pleasant Street Neighborhood Network Center also received a $55,000 TDI Equity Investment grant from MassDevelopment to support the interior renovations.
