Lead Virginia heartily congratulates our Commonwealth’s leaders on the news that CNBC has ranked Virginia as America’s top state for doing business! From our Board Chair Joe Hines – Class of of 2008 – of Timmons Group: “There are over 128 metrics that go into this ranking that are summarized in 10 categories, of which Virginia ranked in the top 50 percent of all categories. It is important to recognize several of our Lead Virginia alumni who have made significant contributions to Virginia reaching this pinnacle again in 2024! "In particular, the Virginia Business Ready Sites Program was mentioned multiple times during the CNBC broadcast this morning. In 2014, I, along with Columbia Gas of Virginia's Gina Slaunwhite – Class of 2015 – Dominion Energy's Kent Hill – Class of 2008 – and a number of other stakeholders, including American Electric Power, Dominion, CSX, Norfolk Southern, Dewberry, and Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission, met with Virginia Economic Development Partnership to determine what Virginia needed to do to become more competitive in this arena – and then helped craft a strategy moving forward. "In addition, there is no doubt that the innovative work of Virginia Economic Development Partnership (led by Jason ElKoubi, Class of 2018) and the Virginia Chamber of Commerce's Blueprint Virginia have played a big role in helping set direction for Virginia businesses (Chamber CEO Barry DuVal, former Lead VA board member and Lead Virginia board member Keith Martin – Class of 2012), along with world class assets like HUNTINGTON INGALLS INCORPORATED, Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII, The Port of Virginia, and Virginia’s Higher Education System setting us apart from our competitor states! "It’s an honor to work with so many passionate, dedicated, and committed Virginia leaders like we have on Lead Virginia’s Board and among our alumni.” Read and watch more at https://lnkd.in/eRkSUsFi #Virginia #LeadVirginia #Va #leadership #opportunity #business

Convening leaders on issues that matter most to the Commonwealth
About us
Modeled on the theory of social capital, Lead Virginia is a nonprofit and non-partisan organization that educates proven leaders about regional differences, opportunities and challenges across the Commonwealth. Over the course of seven class sessions between April and November, each held in a different region in Virginia, participants meet with regional leaders to learn about assets and innovations unique to each region, best practices and how each region contributes to the whole of the Commonwealth. Graduates complete the program having gained a statewide perspective of Virginia’s future and a unique understanding of best practices from each region that they can use to serve the Commonwealth, its regions and communities. Importantly, alumni form relationships that span the state and invaluable business contacts. Lead Virginia continues to facilitate social capital by supporting and engaging alumni through various networking opportunities, such as its annual alumni conference, regional alumni gatherings and Conversations with Leaders series. Alumni serve their communities and their state in a number of capacities: through public and charitable service, elected office and appointments to boards and commissions; and through perspective gained as a result of their Lead Virginia participation.

Congratulations Jeremy Satterfield on your board appointment!
Everyone knows that I prefer jeans and a polo over a suit and tie any day of the week, but some occasions call for the more formal. I've kept this news close to the vest, as I wanted to wait until it had been confirmed. Yesterday, I attended the swearing in ceremony to accept my appointment to the State Board of Community Colleges by Governor Glenn Youngkin. I am exceptionally honored to be given this chance to serve on the state level. Much appreciation to the countless mentors I've had along the way as they helped to forge my path of servitude. Finally, I am thankful for my supportive wife that graciously provides me with the leeway to blaze my own trails. Now, let's roll those sleeves up and get to work!

The Lead Virginia Class of 2024 visited the Roanoke Valley in June, hitting TekniPlex Materials Science Solutions and Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC to learn about the region’s industrial development and economic potential – particularly in medical sciences. Kudos to our hosts! The experience was enlightening and fun! #LeadVirginia #Va #leadership #opportunity #RoanokeValley #innovation

A great weekend with the #LeadVirginia 2024 class exploring Roanoke Valley. Wonderful opportunities exploring the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, TekniPlex (I will now always look for the "P" on the bottom of a K-cup for the location of this manufacturing plant-Pulsaki County, Va); enjoying lunch looking over Lane Stadium and hearing all about the great healthcare research and innovation happening at Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. We visited Mountain Lake Lodge (filming of the original Dirty Dancing movie, admiring my brave classmates engaging in the dance demo). The session wrapped up hearing from inspiring leaders, such as the Chief of Police in Roanoke about building trust in communities. We ended with a very impactful walking tour of Gainsboro. A special "thank you" to our sponsors: #AppalachianPower, #CarilionClinic, and #MountainLakeLodge.

It was another impactful Lead Virginia session exploring the Commonwealth, this time focusing on regional innovation, industry-education collaboration and sustainable energy advancements in the Roanoke Valley. This 'Hoo was deep in Hokie-land and so inspired by Virginia Tech’s work innovating and advancing cutting-edge technologies for Virginia and beyond. At Roanoke Gas Company, I was in my element as the team showcased their renewable natural gas facility and their commitment to a more sustainable future, a priority shared by Virginia Natural Gas and our parent company Southern Company Gas. Thank you to all the presenters and LEAD Virginia for organizing yet another incredible experience! https://lnkd.in/eCSRKFK3

Outstanding! So glad you had a great experience, Alexis.
A week ago today I was in Roanoke with Lead Virginia learning about all the cool research being done in the transportation, biomedical and manufacturing industries. Perhaps the highlight of the trip was a walking tour of the historically Black Gainsboro neighborhood. Looking forward to our next adventure!
