Educating, connecting and energizing leaders to serve and improve our community.

About us

The mission of Leadership Winston-Salem--educating, connecting and energizing leaders to serve and improve the community--guides everything we do. This program is all about building strong, lasting relationships with other leaders, learning more about our community than you ever thought you could, and being inspired to make a difference in our community. Leadership Winston-Salem, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, was started in 1984 by a group of local leaders to increase the understanding and commitment to the city’s future during a time of significant change. The flagship program ran for 20 years and then was taken offline to undergo a redesign effort using adult learning principles and best practices in experiential learning. The current program, re-started in 2005, reflects the results of that effort. Over 1500 individuals, representing the rich diversity of our community, have graduated from the program.

As a proud member of the Flagship Class of 2023—“The Most Connected Class Ever”—I’ve been deeply impacted by the relationships, insights, and personal growth gained through Leadership Winston-Salem . This program played a pivotal role in helping me to shape and focus in on my life’s purpose during a hard period of transition! It was a major inspiration behind my decision to start Purposeful Pediatrics, PLLC . This week, Leadership Winston Salem Wine Down Wednesday was in collaboration with Winston-Salem State University Athletics Department. It opened the opportunity to connect with the new Chancellor, coaches and staff. It was also a time to reconnect with my incredible classmates, and engage with previous classes, leading to bigger connection and collaboration. It always fills my heart to be in these spaces, hearing and sharing our community impact stories that extend beyond the class. Its moments like this that truly remind me of the power of community. #LeadershipWinstonSalem #Flagship2023 #MostConnectedClassEver #PurposefulPediatrics #WineDownWednesday #CommunityAndPurpose

Last week, our Women’s Employee Resource Group (ERG) hosted its second annual Pink Couch event with REACH Women's Network at our downtown Winston-Salem, NC headquarters building. This year’s interactive event focused on the theme “When Everyone Leads,” inspired by the book of the same name by panelist moderator and keynote guest Julia Fabris McBride. Featuring internal and external speakers, the panelists shared diverse perspectives from various levels and industries, driving home the power of seizing opportunities and inspiring others to do the same. A special thanks to our own Valerie Mras, Senior Vice President of Vapor Brands and Adi Trbonja, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, as well as Portia Mount, Founder of Mount Creative, LLC, Inge Smith, Director of Communications for Verger Capital Management and Julia Fabris McBride, Chief Civic Leadership Development Officer at the Kansas Leadership Center for joining the Women’s ERG for this outstanding event! #ReynoldsAmerican #PinkCouch
