About us

Lee Badger left a legacy of well-stocked, clean, bright, friendly grocery stores with competitive prices. The meat, produce, bakery, deli, and floral departments are exceptional and offer quality that is unmatched in the big box stores. Lee loved to greet his customers and to know his team members. The stores have become a gathering place for the community. Lee and Shari Badger started in the grocery business in 1981 when they bought a small grocery store in Smithfield called Jack's Foodtown. Over the next few years, it was remodeled several times and then in 1991, the store was nearly doubled in size. But that was not enough for the growth that was coming to the north end of Cache Valley. In 1994, a new store was built just across the street. The new store now included a pharmacy, a deli, a scratch bakery, and expanded departments. Lee and Shari had operated under the name of Jack's Foodtown for 13 years and it was now changed to Lee's Marketplace. For over 40 years, Lee’s Marketplace has continued to grow and has brought its unique environment to Smithfield, Logan, North Ogden, North Salt Lake, Heber, and Herriman, with more stores underway. Lee's Marketplace strives to reflect that hometown feeling and to be involved with the community. As we move into the future, we will keep our reputation of having clean, bright, friendly stores with competitive prices. MOUNTAIN GREEN, UTAH- Sept. 19, 2024 – Lee’s Marketplace will open its ninth location in Mountain Green, the community’s first grocery store. Jonathan Badger (president and CEO) and Shari Badger (founder) shared, “Mountain Green reminds us of our first location in Smithfield, where it all began. As we’ve been building, the feeling of being at home has only grown with the warm welcome of the surrounding community.” The store will officially open on September 19, 2024, at 10 a.m. at 4935 W Old Hwy Rd, Mountain Green, Utah with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and complimentary refreshments. The 35,000-square-foot store sits on Old Highway Road in Mountain Green with a view of Snowbasin Ski Resort on one side and the new Wasatch Peaks development on the other. At the opening, attendees will have the first introduction to Lee's Marketplace's fun and exciting atmosphere. With a commitment to providing freshness and quality in its products, the Mountain Green location will bring all of the elements northern Utah residents have come to love about the grocery store including a full-service pharmacy, scratch bakery, fresh delicatessen, local produce, quality cut meats, and, of course, the friendly service that sets Lee’s apart. Lee’s will open an Ace Hardware attached to the grocery store later this fall.
